We’re recruiting a Head of Planning in Nottingham to lead construction planning across a diverse portfolio of projects for one of the East Midlands fastest growing main contractors.
This is a full‑time, permanent role offering the chance to shape planning strategy, elevate project delivery, and drive best practice across the wider business.

The Role
As Head of Planning, your primary focus will be to lead the construction delivery planning function, ensuring high‑quality project programmes, robust sequencing, and effective coordination across live schemes and upcoming work.
You’ll provide strategic planning leadership to the Senior Leadership Team while developing and supporting a team of planners operating across multiple offices.
Tender planning remains part of the remit, but your main emphasis will be on raising standards, strengthening delivery processes, and overseeing programmes from preconstruction through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
In this senior role, you will:
- Lead and develop the planning team, setting high standards for delivery planning and programme management.
- Oversee the creation, management and review of construction programmes from preconstruction through to practical completion.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure realistic, achievable and coordinated programmes aligned with project objectives.
- Conduct regular programme reviews, progress updates and critical path analysis to identify risks and mitigation strategies early.
- Support front‑end strategy development, logistics planning and buildability reviews.
- Ensure planning best practice is implemented consistently across the business.
- Lead tender planning activities where required, producing programme content and supporting bid presentations.
- Attend client meetings and guide project teams on programme structure, sequencing and delivery methodology.
- Champion the use of industry‑standard planning software including Asta Powerproject.
About You
To succeed, you will bring:
- Significant experience as a Construction Planner within a main contractor.
- Strong leadership capability with experience managing planning teams.
- Deep understanding of construction sequencing, buildability, methodology and logistics planning.
- Proficiency in Asta Powerproject and experience with CPM, NEC/JCT contracts and ideally MS Project or Primavera P6.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to support project profitability through effective planning.
- Professional memberships (APM, CIOB etc.) are advantageous.
