We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and professional Health and Safety Lead here at Sunfield Garden School and Children’s Homes. This individual will be responsible for ensuring robust, compliant and proactive health and safety management across the school and children’s homes. Working closely with key stakeholders of the Senior Leadership Team you will contribute to a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to safety across all areas of the organisation.
Main Duties:
- Stakeholder engagement and liaison with Provision Lead, Senior Leadership Team, Trust Head of Health and Safety, Maintenance & Aesthetics Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead, Head of Residential Care, Home Managers, HEaRT Team
- Ensuring the school and residential homes meet all relevant Health and Safety requirements, inc the Independent School Standards and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and that appropriate Health and Safety records are maintained, e.g COSHH, ensuring necessary signage is displayed and periodically reviewed
- Act as a primary point of contact—alongside the Executive Principal, Registered Manager and the Maintenance & Aesthetics Manager—for visits or inspections from Ofsted and health and safety enforcement agencies (e.g., HSE, Fire & Rescue, Environmental Health) and maintain ongoing communication with the Trust Health & Safety Manager regarding these visits.
- Liaise with and report to Provision Leader, Trust Head of Health and Safety and Provision head of Maintenance and Aesthetics on all health and safety matters, ensuring effective day-to-day implementation of policies and procedures and securing approval from Provision Leader for any control measures with financial implications
- Oversee an ongoing programme of health and safety inspections and audits, providing timely, constructive feedback to the Senior Leadership Team. Ensuring that concerns are identified, risk-prioritised an addressed through appropriate corrective actions within agreed timescales
- Monitor, review and investigate where necessary all accident reports submitted
- Maintaining infection control audits across school and residential houses.
- Coordinate safety checks and inspections of school vehicles and transport used for pupils.
- Liaise with provision colleagues to carry out as a minimum termly fire drills.
- To ensuring that PEEPs are in place and reviewed in line with relevant legislation.
- Take the lead as a fire marshal, ensuring that all relevant fire risk assessments and the emergency evacuation plan are kept up to date and reviewed as required.
