Administrative Assistant (Underwriting) – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Location: Bristol (Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office)
We are recruiting an Underwriting Assistant on behalf of a leading global insurer. This role sits within the operations function and provides critical administrative and processing support to underwriting teams across multiple lines of business.
About the Role
The Underwriting Assistant acts as the key link between underwriting and business support. You will be responsible for ensuring risks and amendments written by underwriters are processed accurately, completely, and within agreed timelines. The role requires strong coordination with internal teams, effective workload management, and a high standard of data quality.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation & Risk Administration
- Maintain accurate processing documentation and internal trackers
- Ensure submissions are complete before passing to offshore processing teams
- Perform 4-eye checks on financial data
- Resolve booking and quality control queries within SLAs
- Support month-end processing and monitoring of key performance metrics
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of systems and processes
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate workload status, progress against SLAs/KPIs, and any backlog risks
- Respond promptly to internal queries
- Work closely with underwriting teams, cash and credit control, Claims, Risk Engineering, and brokers when required
- Escalate critical issues appropriately
Ancillary Tasks & Team Support
- Assist with audits
- Update training materials and support onboarding of new team members
- Provide training to offshore colleagues
- Contribute to process improvements and operational projects
- Support system and procedural changes

- Ensure full compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in Administration, Operations Support, or Business Support
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
- Experience working to tight or varying deadlines
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Strong analytical skills
- Insurance experience (preferably London/Lloyd’s Market) is highly desirable but not essential
- Experience with Genius or IRIS systems is desirable
