We are seeking a talented and commercially minded Non-Contentious Construction Associate (2–6 years’ PQE) to join our highly regarded Construction team in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile, complex development and infrastructure projects across a range of sectors, including commercial real estate, residential development, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. You will play a key role in advising clients on all aspects of non-contentious construction matters, working alongside leading partners and a collaborative, supportive team.
The Role
As a Non-Contentious Construction Associate, you will:
- Advise on and draft a broad range of construction documentation, including:
- Building contracts (JCT and NEC suites)
- Consultant appointments
- Collateral warranties
- Third-party rights schedules
- Framework agreements
- Pre-construction services agreements
- Support major development and regeneration projects from inception through to completion.
- Provide strategic, commercially focused advice to clients on risk allocation and procurement strategy.
- Work closely with the Real Estate, Projects, Banking, and Corporate teams on cross-disciplinary matters.
- Assist with due diligence exercises and provide construction input on property and corporate transactions.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to business development initiatives.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a motivated Associate with:
- 2–6 years’ PQE gained within a recognised construction team (regional, national or City firm).
- Strong experience in non-contentious construction matters.
- Solid drafting and negotiation skills across standard form construction contracts (particularly JCT and NEC).
- A strong academic background.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to deliver pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Experience acting for developers, funders, contractors, and public sector bodies will be advantageous.
