Job Title: Analytical Chemist
Location: Ellesmere Port
Contract: Temporary (approx. 6 months, strong potential for permanent role)
Salary: Up to £35,000 (dependent on experience)
OVERVIEW
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Analytical Chemist to join a specialist materials organisation during a period of growth. This role will support both manufacturing operations and product development activities, working closely with production, R&D, and technical teams.
This position is ideal for a hands-on chemist with strong industrial laboratory experience and a background in elemental analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY
Laboratory Operations
- Provide analytical support to manufacturing and R&D activities
- Deliver accurate and timely analytical services for internal stakeholders
Analytical Techniques & Instrumentation
- Elemental analysis using LECO (essential) and ICP-OES (highly desirable)
- Exposure to techniques such as:
- Optical microscopy / SEM-EDX
- XRD
- Physical testing (particle size distribution, thickness measurements, etc.)
Method Development
- Support continuous improvement of existing analytical methods
- Assist with development and validation of new methods
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain clear, accurate records for sample preparation and analysis
- Ensure traceability and data integrity in line with quality standards
- Work in accordance with internal quality procedures (ISO 17025 experience desirable)
Collaboration & Workflow
- Liaise with Production and R&D teams to prioritise analytical workloads
- Support efficient and cost-effective use of laboratory resources
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Adhere to health and safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional laboratory environment
- Manage reagent stock levels and safe handling of hazardous materials
MANDATORY REQUIRMENT
- Previous industrial laboratory experience
- Hands-on experience with LECO testing
- ICP experience strongly preferred
- Backgrounds from metals, waste, or agrochemicals are particularly relevant
