I’m working with a respected Bristol-based construction business that specialises in residential-focused developments, including student accommodation, hotels, and social housing schemes. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they’re now looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their QS career to gain hands-on experience on live projects while working closely with experienced Senior and Managing Quantity Surveyors.
🏗️ The Role
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial management of one or more residential-led construction projects, from pre-construction through to final account.
You’ll be involved in cost control, procurement, subcontractor management, and reporting, while developing a strong understanding of commercial processes within a main contracting environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with cost planning, forecasting, and reporting
- Supporting the procurement of subcontract packages
- Measurement and valuation of works
- Assisting with subcontractor payments and variations
- Supporting the management of budgets and cost control
- Working closely with site and project teams
- Assisting with final accounts and commercial close-out
✅ Ideal Candidate Profile
- Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Assistant
- Background working for a main contractor (preferred)
- Experience or interest in residential, student accommodation, hotel, or social housing projects
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ambition to progress and develop within a regional contractor environment
- Degree-qualified or working towards a construction-related qualification (desirable)
