Industrial Internship – Civil Engineering / BIM / Site Development

10–12 Month Placement | September 2026 Start | Multiple UK Locations

We are hiring motivated Civil Engineering students for a 10–12 month Industrial Internship within a global, multidisciplinary engineering and built-environment consultancy.

This placement is designed for students who want hands-on experience working on real infrastructure and site development projects while building the technical, digital, and professional skills required for a future graduate engineering career.

From day one, you’ll contribute to live projects that shape cities, transport networks, energy systems, and sustainable communities.

    Key Criteria (Essential)

You’ll be a strong match if you meet most of the following:

    • Currently studying Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline)
    • On track for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
    • Available to start a 10–12 month placement in September 2026
    • Strong interest in infrastructure, site development, and the built environment
    • Passion for sustainability and low-carbon design
    • Curious, proactive, and eager to learn
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available for this role)

    Key Criteria (Desirable)

    • Basic experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, or GIS
    • Placement, internship, or summer work experience in engineering or construction
    • Interest in digital engineering, automation, or data-led design
    • Membership or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE)

    About the Opportunity

As an Industrial Placement Civil Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and digital specialists across a wide range of infrastructure and site development projects, including:

    • Site development and earthworks
    • Highways and transport infrastructure
    • Sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS)
    • Flood risk and coastal engineering
    • Utilities and water / wastewater infrastructure
    • Energy and renewable infrastructure
    • Data centres and large-scale developments

You’ll gain exposure across the full project lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

This internship is a recognised pathway into future graduate engineering roles within the organisation.

    What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your team, you may be involved in:

    • Civil engineering design, calculations, drawings, and technical reports
    • Feasibility studies, option appraisals, and business case support
    • Site visits, surveys, and stakeholder meetings
    • Collaborating with planners, landscape architects, environmental consultants, and BIM teams
    • Producing drainage, highways, and site layouts
    • Supporting sustainability and low-carbon design strategies
    • Working with digital engineering and BIM tools
    • Analysing and manipulating datasets to support engineering solutions

You’ll receive mentoring, structured training, and continuous feedback throughout the placement.

Tools & Software You May Use

    • AutoCAD / Civil 3D / MicroStation
    • BIM and common data environments
    • GIS software
    • Infraworks / Navisworks
    • Drainage and water modelling tools
    • Excel, Python, and digital automation tools

(Previous experience is helpful but not essential — training is provided.)

    Location

Multiple UK office locations available. You can indicate your preferred locations during application.

    Start Date: September 2026

If you’re a Civil Engineering student looking for an industrial placement that combines technical depth, sustainability, digital engineering, and real project impact, we’d love to hear from you.
