    Job description

Underwriter - Bridging & Development Finance

If you have hands-on bridging finance experience, understand the legal and credit process end-to-end, and want to work in a high-performing, fast-growing specialist lender where underwriting judgement genuinely matters, this opportunity should be on your radar.

    The Company

We are recruiting on behalf of an award-winning specialist property finance lender operating across England and Wales.

The lender focuses on SME developers and investors, providing loans from £250k to £10m across bridging and development-led transactions. With a strong track record, significant lending volumes and no historic capital losses, this is a business built on disciplined underwriting, execution excellence and a clearly defined risk appetite.

The Underwriter - Bridging & Development Finance Role

As an Underwriter, you will sit at the heart of deal execution. This is not a theoretical or policy-only role. You will be responsible for assessing, structuring and progressing transactions through to completion, balancing commercial opportunity with disciplined risk management.

You’ll work closely with Sales, Transactions and Asset Management teams, as well as brokers, borrowers, valuers and solicitors, ensuring deals are packaged correctly, progressed efficiently and completed to a high standard.

Underwriter - Bridging & Development Finance: Key Responsibilities

    • Underwrite bridging and development finance transactions in line with credit policy and risk appetite
    • Assess loan applications and identify, mitigate and clearly articulate risk
    • Manage transactions proactively from initial review through to completion
    • Structure loans that meet borrower requirements while protecting the lender
    • Review valuations, legal reports, monitoring surveyor reports and planning documentation
    • Prepare detailed credit papers using proprietary underwriting technology
    • Present well-reasoned recommendations to Credit Committee
    • Maintain clear audit trails and documented underwriting rationale
    • Conduct peer reviews to support and strengthen the underwriting team
    • Liaise with brokers, borrowers, solicitors, valuers and other external stakeholders
    • Develop a deep understanding of the lender’s underwriting approach and portfolio strategy

Underwriter - Bridging & Development Finance: Skills & Experience

    • Experience underwriting bridging finance or development-led transactions
    • Strong execution experience with completed deals, not just approvals
    • A solid understanding of the legal process and transaction lifecycle
    • Exposure to refurbishment, commercial or buy-to-let lending (highly advantageous)
    • The ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
    • Clear, confident communication and stakeholder management skills

    Package & Benefits

    • Competitive salary, dependent on experience
    • Private healthcare
    • 25 days annual leave plus a day off for your birthday
    • Cycle to work scheme & Regular staff socials

    Why Apply?

You’ll be trusted with responsibility, exposed to meaningful deal flow, and supported by a business that values execution, judgement and long-term development.

If you want to sharpen your underwriting capability, work alongside ambitious peers and play a central role in a market-leading lending platform, this role offers both challenge and progression.
