OpportunityWe are looking for a Head of Property to lead and further develop our Property portfolio across the Netherlands. This is a key leadership role, responsible for driving underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, and team excellence, while strengthening our market position and delivering sustainable, profitable growth. There is a strong focus on further developing a Lead / Multinational proposition.
Responsibilities- Underwrite complex insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives, including negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines, and ensuring contribution to the business plan and objectives.
- Support the development of the annual business plan for the Property portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan.
- Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, to maximize brand leverage.
- Establish and strengthen strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objectives.
- Contribute to the development of the team’s business plan to maximize productivity and performance.
- Apply reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and deliver business plan objectives.
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance.
- Contribute and influence the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives.
- Ensure accurate entries on EO systems for underwriting and aggregate exposures.
- Contribute to aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence.
- Manage resources across the team to achieve business requirements.
- Motivate and develop the team, demonstrating good leadership behaviours and management best practice.
- Manage performance fairly and in line with performance processes.
- Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Property insurance market dynamics, including global and regional trends, competitive landscape, and portfolio performance drivers.
- Proven expertise in Property underwriting, with a strong track record in managing complex risks, optimising portfolios, and driving profitable growth.
- Advanced understanding of reinsurance structures, placement strategies, and their impact on portfolio performance and capital efficiency.
- Strong leadership capabilities, with experience managing, mentoring and developing high‑performing underwriting teams.
- Deep knowledge of underwriting frameworks, governance, and best practices, ensuring consistency, discipline and technical excellence across the function.
- Excellent knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements, with the ability to ensure full compliance and embed governance standards.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to define underwriting appetite, portfolio strategy and risk selection criteria aligned with business objectives.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, market insights and financial metrics to guide underwriting strategy.
- Proficiency in underwriting tools and systems, including advanced use of Excel and other relevant software to support portfolio management and reporting.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership, brokers and external partners.
- Fluency in Dutch and English is mandatory.
