As a Senior Optical Designer you guide the entire product creation process from concept phase to industrialization for high‑tech products and machines. You support our customers in developing high‑tech systems where electron and x‑ray physics, contamination control, ultra‑high vacuum and thermal design play an important part. You will work for customers in the semiconductor, analytical and medical equipment industries, within the Brainport region and beyond.
Responsibilities- Apply optical system design expertise and creativity to realize innovative solutions for the high‑tech industry.
- Involve yourself throughout the entire product creation process: from ideation and demonstrating the feasibility of concepts through functional models and calculations, to translating them into robust designs and supporting integration and verification testing.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including system architects, computational physicists, image‑processing mathematicians, and others to achieve project objectives.
- Guide colleagues from other disciplines to further develop and realize your designs, while mentoring junior engineers and supporting their technical growth.
- Master’s or PhD diploma in physics or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the design, realization, verification and industrialization of optical systems for the high‑tech industry, including lens and illumination design as well as imaging and machine‑vision applications.
- A system‑level mindset with the ability to switch effectively between high‑level system thinking and detailed technical analysis, combined with a strong sense of priorities.
- Experience with the system integration aspects of optical (sub)‑systems including opto‑mechanics, tolerance analysis, metrology and calibration.
- Strong physical understanding of a broad range of optical measurement techniques, including computational methods such as holography and ptychography.
- Excellent modelling, experimental and analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Good communication skills, both with internal stakeholders and towards customers and suppliers.
- Flexible 32‑40 hour working week, with room to work from home.
- Healthy work‑life balance: 28 holidays with an option to buy an additional 12 holidays.
- Work with passionate colleagues who share your drive for technology and business success.
- Freedom and responsibility in a cross‑functional environment that blends software, electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, mathematics and assembly.
- Personal coaching and a training budget of €6000 per year for continuous development.
- Opportunity to participate in company events, festivals, knowledge sessions and enjoy a vibrant office culture.
