Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is responsible for developing and operating the company’s premium sports and entertainment direct‑to‑consumer video businesses, including ESPN DTC, Disney+, and Hulu. The Live Orchestration Department provides round‑the‑clock support for live and on‑demand streaming products, ensuring proper functionality across all platforms and managing incident response.
Job SummaryThe Supervisor, Streaming Media Operations will guide and manage a team of Leads and Operators in the orchestration of live and on‑demand content for playback on streaming platforms including Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu + Live TV. This includes ensuring media availability, quality, schedule, and rights data, executing workflows, troubleshooting, and co‑ordinating with cross‑functional teams.
Responsibilities- Guide and manage team of Leads and Operators on live and on‑demand content orchestration.
- Execute routine workflows and support actions as part of shift responsibilities.
- Apply troubleshooting techniques to resolve complex data problems in real‑time service outages.
- Coach the shift to ensure smooth operations across time zones and mentor reports.
- Serve as an expert in planning, implementing, and operationalizing processes for new technology.
- Act as a subject‑matter expert during high‑priority incidents, driving quick resolution and driving SOP improvements.
- Plan shift schedules with the U.S.‑based managerial team and ensure staffing needs are met.
- Work remotely to support overnight U.S. Hours with minimal overlap with engineering teams.
- Use proprietary software to execute operational actions in both standard and emergency scenarios, impacting media availability, schedule data, and distribution rights enforcement.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Product, Business, and other teams to define and intake support requirements for linear streaming operations, including new feature launches and custom workflows.
- Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.
- Maintain and update team wiki/knowledge base and ensure shift reports are clear and useful.
- 25 % of time: Execute operational actions in both standard and emergency scenarios.
- 20 % of time: Partner with internal teams on support requirements and feature launches.
- 20 % of time: Apply best practices to improve products or services.
- 20 % of time: Maintain and update team wiki/knowledge base.
- 15 % of time: Other duties as assigned.
- Basic qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in a relevant technical, operational or digital media environment with proven leadership skills, including training and mentoring.
- Knowledge of video streaming fundamentals (video codecs, bitrates, resolution, SDR/HDR, HLS vs DASH, CDNs, etc.).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams across multiple regions and time zones.
- Experience adopting new technology terms, tools, and capabilities into everyday workflows.
- Clear communication and documentation skills.
- Flexibility with work schedule; nights, weekends, holidays when needed to cover major live events and incidents.
- Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of Elasticsearch, Splunk, or Datadog, and experience with real‑time analytic/visualization tools.
- Familiarity with Conviva or similar streaming PQoE platform.
- Comfort with accessing and interacting with APIs (via Postman, swagger docs, etc.) and reading/editing JSON and XML.
