Vacaturebeschrijving

Welcome to Maastricht University! Do you want to contribute to innovative research and education in precision neuropsychology? Are you passionate about understanding brain‑behaviour relationships and individual differences in cognition, emotion, and behaviour? Then we would like to meet you.

Our goal: The Neuropsychology section’s research focuses on the complex yet fascinating relationships between the brain and behaviour. We have various research lines that address biological, physiological, affective, and psychosocial aspects in a life‑span perspective, as well as congenital and acquired neurological issues.

Your colleagues: You will work in a challenging academic position within a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team. Together with your colleagues you will have the opportunity to play a role in innovation in education and research in neuropsychology. On top of that you will work in an inspiring working environment at Maastricht University, where education and research are closely connected to societal impact.

Responsibilities

In this position, research and teaching are equally central: you will contribute to advancing the scientific profile of the section while playing an active and engaged role in our educational programs at Bachelor, Master, and Research Master levels.

  • Your research will strengthen and expand the department’s focus on precision neuropsychology, including modeling individual patterns in cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning across time and context – and their relation to brain structure and/or function. We are particularly interested in candidates who investigate within‑person variability using repeated assessments or intensive longitudinal designs, model individual response trajectories within interventions, training, or prevention programs, examine mechanisms of change and cognitive and neural plasticity at the individual level, and develop or apply advanced psychometric and statistical approaches suitable for person‑specific inference. This includes, for example, work using experience sampling designs, individual fingerprinting approaches, network analyses, or other advanced quantitative methods capable of capturing intra‑individual dynamics.
  • You will conduct research that complements and extends ongoing work within the Neuropsychology section, contributing methodological expertise and helping to further develop collective competence in contemporary empirical and analytical approaches.
  • You will contribute substantially to teaching, including coordinating or delivering core courses, providing methodological skills training, supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects, and mentoring research internships. Educational innovation, supervision, and academic citizenship are regarded as integral to the role.
  • You will actively strengthen the group through collaboration, open exchange of expertise, and a willingness to contribute to the department’s shared goals in both research and education. As the department aims to expand its capacity in precision‑oriented and translational directions, you will play a key role in shaping this development together with your colleagues.
Qualifications
  • A profile matching UFO profile of assistant professor according to the Dutch labor agreement for universities.
  • A strong motivation to contribute to and collaborate within precision Neuropsychology, and to integrate their expertise with existing departmental strengths.
  • A completed PhD in neuropsychology or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of postdoctoral/independent researcher experience relevant to the position.
  • Relevant scientific publications and concrete ideas for research projects on advancing precision or individualized approaches in neuropsychology.
  • An interest in or experience with transdiagnostic frameworks and clinical or at‑risk populations, including work relevant to neuropsychological assessment, intervention, or rehabilitation, is considered an asset.
  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to help build shared expertise in contemporary methodological and analytical approaches relevant to translational and personalized neuroscience.
  • Experience with ecologically valid paradigms, including methods spanning controlled laboratory settings and real‑world contexts (e.g., ambulatory, naturalistic, or daily‑life assessments), is highly valued. A passion for teaching, including at least 2 years experience in teaching, preferably (co‑)coordinating courses.
  • Experience supervising research internships.
  • (Preferably) possession of a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ (in Dutch: BKO)) or willingness to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in English, and able to communicate with relevant stakeholders such as patients and clinicians (preferable both in Dutch and English).
Benefits
  • An 18‑month contract (1,0 fte) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4 728,00 and €6 433,00 (based on full‑time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year‑end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full‑time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close‑knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
