The Office’s objectives are to develop sustainable design solutions for space systems, mitigating environmental impacts and risks both in space and on Earth, and to enable a space circular economy that can guarantee the long‑term sustainable use of space and develop new in‑orbit services and value chains for space assets.

As Space Safety ISAM Coordinator, you will support strategic decision‑making and coordinate the technical and programmatic implementation of future in‑orbit servicing, assembly and manufacturing and active debris removal missions in the Space Safety Programme, acting as a focal point for the programme’s internal and external interfaces and collaborations on these topics.

  • guaranteeing the successful implementation of Office ISAM projects up to SRR, supporting the preparation for adoption and transition to implementation in the ADRIOS cornerstone;
  • performing risk management to monitor and minimise the project risks, identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution;
  • interfacing with other directorates and programmes, in particular with STS InSPoC projects, to facilitate the coordination of ISAM related activities across the Agency;
  • supporting the ESA ISAM Working Group to guarantee cross‑cutting coordination of the ISAM‑related topics across the Agency, coordinating the mapping and road‑mapping of activities;
  • supporting collaboration with institutional stakeholders such as the European Commission and the ISOS pilot mission and ISOS flagship preparation;
  • defining, initiating and implementing R&D roadmaps in the areas of active debris removal, in‑orbit servicing, close‑proximity operations, and design for servicing;
  • participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals in the areas relevant to the Office;
  • coordinating market assessments and accompanying ISAM use case definition in coordination with commercial stakeholders and other ESA directorates;
  • contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.
Technical competencies

  • Experience in coordinating technical teams for the implementation of activities and projects
  • System engineering in different mission phases, and understanding of system requirements and interfaces, in particular for ISAM‑related missions
  • Knowledge of ESA and industrial development, verification and procurement processes
  • Management of industrial activities including reviews
  • Knowledge of space engineering standards and their implementation
