As a (Senior) Mechanical Designer, you contribute to the development of advanced high-tech systems used in the international high-tech industry, such as complex lithography machines, compact electron microscopes, smart home automation systems, and innovative electric vehicles. You work in a multidisciplinary environment together with specialists in mechanics, electronics, software, mechatronics, and applied mathematics.
In this role, you act as a technical partner to architects and system designers, translating specifications into innovative mechanical concepts and detailed design solutions. You perform necessary engineering calculations, including tolerance analyses and other mechanical assessments, and define critical-to-quality dimensions to ensure robust and reliable designs. Your concepts and designs are visualized and developed using 3D modeling tools.
You collaborate closely with architects, system designers, engineers, and fellow designers to support the overall product development process. Your work ensures that mechanical designs meet customer requirements and are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, testing, and serviceability while maintaining cost efficiency.
Additionally, you work with suppliers to align on manufacturability, component availability, and the use of vendor components. As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you take ownership of larger and more complex design challenges and may provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and designers within the mechanical domain.
Do you see yourself as…- A completed BSc of MSc of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electro‑mechanics
- At least 5 years - and 10 years for the senior role - of experience and expertise in the design of mechatronic and precision systems
- Creativity and skilled in finding design solutions based on multidisciplinary requirements and concepts.
- Excellent knowledge and experience with Design for excellence (DFX: cost, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, etc)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coach and guide other Engineers and more junior Designers
