Basic Functions of the Position
The Residence Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the diplomatic residence, supervising and managing all household staff, whilst ensuring good morale. The incumbent acts as liaison between the employer’s office and the residence and is an advisor to the resident diplomat. Incumbent advises on representational events at the residence and communicates frequently and effectively with the employer.
Main duties and responsibilities include coordinating upcoming events, maintaining the residence calendar and events schedule, monitoring staff schedules, time and attendance, and in conjunction with the employer, annual leave, as well as counselling the residence staff when needed. Manages all aspects of preparations for representational functions. Incumbent instructs the Chef, Butler and Houskeeper about upcoming events, arrangements and guest arivals.
Financial duties include reporting monthly expenses in a correct and timely manner, tracking of staff days worked, and distribution of monthly payroll sheets. The incumbent also controls and coordinates the petty cash fund.
Other responsibilities include ensuring that the residence is clean and well-maintained, ensuring the lawn and grounds are properly maintained, purchasing of household supplies, and overseeing and safeguarding all necessary maintenance and repair work at the residence. Maintains and supervises the silver, china, wine, and household inventories. Coordinates basic security matters pertaining to visitors and guests.
Qualifications Required

1. Education: Graduation from college is desired.
2. Experience: Experience in the hospitality business including supervisory experience is required.
3. Language Requirements: Speaking/Reading/Writing Level III (good working knowledge) English and Dutch are required. (This may be tested.)
4. Skills and Abilities: Able to handle yourself with elegance and tact, and to work under pressure. Must have strong customer service and excellent communication skills. Must be well-organized and flexible. Takes initiative. A problem solver with attention to detail. Must be computer proficient.
Any of the above qualifications may be tested through an assessment as part of the recruitment process.
