What you do
In this position, you serve as Political Specialist and are one of three locally employed staff supporting the work of the Political-Economic Section. Your portfolios cover Dutch domestic politics, Parliament, foreign policy, human rights and religious freedom issues. You take a leading role in drafting congressionally mandated reports on human rights and international religious freedom. In addition to monitoring and reporting on legislative files relevant to the portfolio, you are also the section’s primary liaison with the Dutch Parliament and are expected to build and maintain contacts with Members of Parliament and parliamentary committee staff. You support other work in the section as needed.
What we ask (minimal requirements to apply)
· At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience pertaining to politics, international relations, social policies, and/or human rights, with proven skill in written presentation of analysis and conclusions.
· A university degree in political science, international relations, law, journalism and/or economics is required.
OR
· At least seven years of progressively responsible professional experience pertaining to politics, international relations, social policies, and/or human rights, with proven skill in written presentation of analysis and conclusions.
· Completion of at least two years of college/university studies (no specific field) is required.
In addition, we ask for the following minimal requirements:
· Level IV (fluent) English and level IV (fluent Dutch (reading, speaking, writing) is required.
· Advanced knowledge and understanding of the Dutch political system and policy-making process, domestic and foreign policy issues, human rights and religious freedom context are required.
· You must be able to approach assignments in an analytical and objective manner to identify and separate important developments and trend from less relevant matters; and must be able to develop and cultivate a knowledgeable and reliable set of key contacts in all sectors of Dutch government and society. You must be able to demonstrate initiative and carry out tasks independently with minimal supervision. Ability to carry out multiple simultaneous complex research and analytical reporting projects is required. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Intermediate computer and strong briefing and writing skills are required, along with familiarity with social media and technology.
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass security certification and may be required to obtain a Certificate of Conduct for Natural Persons (VOG) from the Ministry of Safety and Justice of the Netherlands.
What we offer
· Annual salary of EUR 67,158– EUR 94,024
· 8.33 % End of year bonus (13th month)
