An opportunity to study the molecular mechanisms of underlying DNA replication at one of the largest University Medical Centres in the country.
DNA replication represents a crucial, but potentially dangerous process that cells must complete to undergo cellular division. A failure to properly maintain the integrity of replicating chromosomes inevitably leads to genome instability, which is an early event in tumorigenesis. The candidate will be part of a young research team studying molecular and the structural mechanisms underlying DNA replication stress—its role in tumorigenesis and chemoresistance. To study the molecular effects of replication stress and the factors associated with it, molecular cloning, in vitro and in vivo CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, modern sequencing and proteomics technologies and mouse transplantations in combination with structural technologies like Electron Microscopy and single‑molecule imaging technologies will be used.
Requirements- We are searching for a postdoctoral researcher with a PhD degree with experience in molecular biology techniques and mammalian tissue culture.
- Qualifications to work with mouse models (Article 12), clinical material and experience in electron microscopy and single‑molecule imaging would be an advantage.
- Interest in learning and implementing new technologies in the lab.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving skills, organizational skills and ability to work with others.
- Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment.
- You will receive a temporary position for 1 year.
- The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of €4,485,- gross, (scale 10.5) depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full‑time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
- Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
- An International Office which aids you in preparing for your arrival and stay.
- Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
- Special benefits, such as an in‑company physiotherapist and bicycle repairer, and there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.

The candidate will be positioned at the Department of Molecular Genetics and will work in a research team focussed on the study of various aspects of DNA replication stress and its connection to the damage response to exploit this knowledge for improving anti‑cancer therapy. The Department of Molecular Genetics is a vibrant and international group of more than 50 researchers working on various aspects of DNA damage, DNA repair and other DNA damage responses.
