The Princess Margriet Fund is hosted by Netherlands Red Cross. PMF promotes and develops Climate Change Adaptation & Nature based Solutions (NbS) for long term structural disaster prevention and risk reduction across the Red Cross Red Crescent network.
The goal is to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities worldwide that are affected by natural hazards exacerbated by climate change. We do this by protecting nature to protect people, supporting interventions with thematic expertise on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, Nature based Solutions and Community Resilience.
Princess Margriet Fund focuses on providing 4 main services to the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and its network of 191 National Societies:
- Communication and Promotion of Climate change adaptation and Nature-based solutions across the Red Cross Red Crescent Societies network.
- Resource Mobilization & Business Development, support proposal and program development, identify new opportunities and donor engagement.
- Partnership development & brokering. Facilitate technical, implementation and financial partnerships on global, regional and local levels with IFRC network.
- Training Support: provide contextualized trainings for interested NSs to sensitize and build capacity to work on nature-based solution activities.
In this position you report to the Lead of PMF. The focus in this position is on Resource Mobilization. You will work in a small and enthusiastic team based in The Hague. This includes working with other units at Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) International Department such as Water, Climate and Nature (WCN) and Program Development and Management (PDM) for technical support, strategic alignment and coordination. You will also work with IFRC colleagues based in Geneva and colleagues based in the regional offices.
Responsibilities of the Senior BD officerAs the Senior Officer your first objective is to secure, intensify and increase the collaboration with (institutional) donors and partners. You are responsible for developing and executing the business development strategy, identifying new partnership opportunities, writing and supporting large scale program proposals, new initiatives, and opportunities for bankable business cases.
The fundraising landscape is changing in terms of resources and incentives and new models for value-exchange (that go beyond linear donor-grantee relations) are needed to engage future funding partners. You are expected to develop innovative proposals and business cases to engage previously untapped sources of funding, such as climate finance, impact development funds, development banks and innovative finance mechanisms.
You are expected to navigate between the strategic and tactical levels within the organization structure. Support the Lead of PMF on delivering the key services to IFRC and National Societies. You will work closely with other colleagues and external partners. You are expected to travel internationally to partner countries and to the countries where projects, programs and institutional donors are based. The estimated travel time will be approximately 6 weeks per year.
Content of the role- Develop and execute resource mobilization strategy for IFRC Global Partnerships (e.g. With World Wildlife Fund).
- Build and grow our donor, foundations and impact investor network.
- Develop new business proposals for donors and investors together with IFRC and its network.
- Mapping, identifying and developing new value-exchange models with prospective funders; knowledge & technical partners and end- beneficiaries.
- Coordinate proposal development for large scale programs with IFRC and its global partnerships.
- Coordinate with the international department with fundraising for NLRC, IFRC and National Societies to strategically access funding.
- Expand the network and partnerships in the field of landscape restoration, nature-based solutions, climate change adaptation.
- Support the management of PMF with resource mobilization strategies, training coordination, and partnerships.
- Coordinate NbS innovative finance project with partners and donors.
University degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, International Development, International Business, Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship. Preferably the candidate has relevant experience in impact investment, philanthropy and multilateral donor organizations.
- Good knowledge of Climate Change Adaptation, Nature based Solutions, Community Resilience (Innovative finance is a plus).
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in (new) business and multi-stakeholder proposal development with a track‑record of winning proposals.
- Minimum of 8 years professional experience in donor liaison (Government, institutional donors or foundations).
- Professional experience in developing large scale proposals in humanitarian and development sector. Excellent proposal writing and presentation skills.
- Innovative and creative thinking and acting, results-driven networking skills.
- Motivated, self-starter.
- Sensitivity to the political and cultural environment of public agencies, multilaterals or similarly complex environments.
- Excellent project leader/coordination and communication skills for complex processes and partnerships with results-focus and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent command of the English language (basic command of Dutch is a plus).
- This position is open to candidates who already have the right to live and work in the Netherlands, as we are unable to sponsor visas.
A flexible and a people-oriented work environment with room for initiative and development. A part-time (based on 32-hour work week) or full-time appointment (based on 40-hour work week) for one year, with the possibility of extension. Our office is in the Hague, it is easy to reach by public transport.
Salary indication based on scale 12 of the CAO NLRC depending on education and experience (min. € 4.369,71 and max. € 6.188,04 gross per month for fulltime employment).
