Head of Platform Engineering

The Platform teams are focused on the Creative Fabrica infrastructure and foundational software components. That includes SRE and dev experience, core domain services (foundational entities like identity management, authentication, authorization, sessions management, etc), and the content domain (management of lifecycle of all content items in the system). This is the foundation used by multiple feature teams at CF to build the end-user facing functionality and accelerate value delivery.

Given our current coverage and rapid growth, it is essential to ensure high-talent staffing and expertise to build an effective platform engineering team. Our infrastructure and backend domain services must scale with the company's growth and be prepared for future challenges. To achieve this, we need a strong Head of Platform Engineering with experience in building large-scale backend systems who can navigate the complexities of scaling our infrastructure. This role involves defining and driving strategy and major goals, building and leading the platform engineering team to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our platform. The Head of Platform will join the senior engineering leadership team and work closely with the CTO to foster strong collaboration, drive productivity, and implement best SRE and software architecture practices across engineering.

• 5+ years in an engineering director or head of platform engineering role in software product companies, with a strong preference for SaaS.
• 10+ years of experience operating and supporting a high-volume, high-performance, cloud-based distributed computing environment.
• Proven track record in building, scaling and inspiring dynamic engineering teams of 20+ people.
• Experience with leading foundational core domain services on the backend, such as user repository, authentication and sessions management, authorization, resource and content management, licensing, payments etc.
• Understanding principles of running an internal platform - (infra at scale, software layering, how to build as a service)
• Experience with defining, embedding and leading engineering-wide SRE practices and processes, including ownership over production stability, availability, support, performance, and security.

• Experience in modern distributed web service-based architecture.
• Good understanding of Cloud Native architectures, approaches, and cost optimization, with a focus on AWS.
• Ability to develop and enforce on-call policies, logging, and reporting business metrics.
• Understanding software architecture and trade-offs.
