Vacaturebeschrijving

About Us: At Booking.com, data drives our decisions. Technology is at our core. And innovation is everywhere. But our company is more than datasets, lines of code or A/B tests. We’re the thrill of the first night in a new place. The excitement of the next morning. The friends you encounter. The journeys you take. The sights you see. And the memories you make. Through our products, partners and people, we make it easier for everyone to experience the world.

About the team: The Application Data Services department provides world‑class database and streaming solutions, both on‑premise and on public cloud, to our infrastructure and product development teams. We ensure secure, reliable, and scalable transport and storage of data for our business and infrastructure services. Our data services currently cover technologies like MySQL, Cassandra, Kafka, Confluent, and Elasticsearch. We plan to expand this with complementary cloud database technologies.

Role Description: As a Senior Product Manager for the Streaming and NoSQL Track, you will define and execute the long‑term strategy and roadmap for a set of critical data services that power Booking.com at global scale. This track oversees both on‑premise technologies (Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch) and the evolution of our cloud‑native offerings built on services like Confluent Cloud, OpenSearch, and DynamoDB. You’ll play a key leadership role, driving alignment across multiple technical teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and shaping the next generation of data infrastructure at Booking.com.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set a long‑term vision and multi‑year roadmap for Streaming and NoSQL platforms, balancing technical evolution, cost efficiency, and user value.
  • Drive cross‑organizational alignment on strategy and priorities, influencing senior stakeholders and engineering leaders across Infrastructure and Product departments.
  • Partner deeply with engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure data services, ensuring they meet Booking’s high performance standards.
  • Define product success metrics and use data‑driven insights to make prioritization and investment decisions.
  • Mentor and support other Product Managers within the data services domain to drive best practices in product discovery and delivery.
  • Champion adoption of platform services, enabling product and infrastructure teams to build efficiently and securely on our data foundation.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Security, Finance, and Cloud to manage risk, optimize spend, and ensure compliance.
Role Qualifications and Requirements
  • Product Leadership: 5+ years of product management experience building and scaling technical platform or infrastructure products (Cloud and/or On‑Premise).
  • Proven track record of setting product vision and strategy for complex, multi‑stakeholder technical domains.
  • Strategic Delivery: Consistent record of delivering large‑scale, highly available software and services, from concept to rollout, using data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Technical Acumen: Solid understanding of distributed systems, data storage, and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, or similar).
  • Ability and drive to learn Booking.com’s infrastructure, system architecture, and technical direction.
  • Cross‑Functional Influence: Proven ability to influence technology teams and senior stakeholders through data, standards, and best practices.
  • Experienced in navigating large, matrixed environments and leading through ambiguity.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Strong ability to translate complex technical capabilities into clear business outcomes and product value.
  • Passion for enabling developers through high‑quality internal platform services.
  • Execution Excellence: Skilled in end‑to‑end solution delivery, from opportunity sizing and requirements definition to launch and adoption. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management, and communication skills across diverse engineering and business teams. Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Education: Background in Computer Science or a related technical field is a plus.
Benefits & Perks - Global Impact, Personal Relevance
  • Annual paid time off and generous paid leave scheme including parent, grandparent, bereavement, and care leave.
  • Hybrid working including flexible working arrangements, and up to 20 days per year working from abroad (home country).
  • Industry leading product discounts – up to 1400 per year – for yourself, including automatic Genius Level 3 status and Booking.com wallet credit.
  • Living and working in Amsterdam, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe.
  • Contributing to a high scale, complex, world renowned product and seeing real‑time impact of your work on millions of travelers worldwide.
  • Working in a fast‑paced and performance‑driven culture.
  • Opportunity to utilize technical expertise, leadership capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Promote and drive impactful and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Technical, behavioral and interpersonal competence advancement via on‑the‑job opportunities, experimental projects, hackathons, conferences and active community participation.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package and some great added perks of working in the home city of Booking.com.
