What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Medical Underwriter, you will play a key role in evaluating applications for disability insurance from a medical and technical perspective, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines, and supporting product development. This position is critical for delivering accurate, fair, and timely decisions to serve the interests of our customers and our business.

Medical Underwriting

Evaluate individual disability insurance applications based on medical, technical and occupational risk factors. Analyse medical reports, case files, and additional documentation to assess risk levels. Ensure adherence to underwriting policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with medical advisers, medical support agents, external medical professionals, the operations and product teams, as well as external partners to streamline processes. Provide medical risk insights to cross‑functional teams to improve product offerings. Collaborate with claims teams on cases requiring medical expertise.

Process Development

Assist in developing and implementing efficient medical underwriting processes and procedures. Contribute to automation and digital innovation in underwriting workflows.

Customer Experience

Communicate underwriting decisions effectively and empathetically to customers and stakeholders. Support initiatives to improve customer satisfaction and turnaround times.

Regulatory Compliance

Stay informed about relevant legal and medical guidelines in the Dutch disability insurance market. Ensure full compliance with industry standards and Insify’s internal policies.

What you’ll need

• Proven experience (5+ years) as a medical underwriter, preferably in disability insurance or similar product lines.
• Strong knowledge of the Dutch AOV disability insurance market and regulatory environment.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, occupational risks, and underwriting practices of leading market players. Familiarity with the Swiss Re Life Guide is a plus.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make data‑driven decisions.
• Proficiency in Dutch (written and spoken); English proficiency is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., medicine, nursing, insurance, or business).
• Certification or training in medical underwriting is highly desirable.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and communicate with clients.
• A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
