Design Manager

Our client, a premier owner‑operator of data centers across the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, is seeking a Design Manager to take charge of the full design lifecycle for their high‑performance, mission‑critical facilities. Based in the Netherlands and requiring travel throughout Europe, this role is central to ensuring that all new builds, site conversions, and upgrades meet the highest standards in reliability, scalability and energy efficiency.

In this role, you will serve as the technical lead for a wide portfolio of projects, overseeing everything from feasibility studies to design validation. You’ll develop conceptual and functional designs, manage external engineering consultants, and ensure alignment with both internal standards and regional regulations. Working closely with project managers and senior stakeholders, you'll influence design strategy, drive technical innovation, and contribute directly to sustainable growth across multiple European sites.

Whether you're overseeing greenfield development or upgrading an existing site, your engineering expertise and ability to challenge assumptions will be key to maintaining design integrity and delivering state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure. This is a highly collaborative role with exposure to multidisciplinary teams and top‑tier engineering partners, offering both strategic influence and hands‑on technical involvement.

• Bachelor’s degree (HBO-level or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
• Significant experience in data center design, engineering, or construction.
• Deep technical knowledge of power distribution, cooling, redundancy systems, and data center infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead and review work from external engineering consultancies.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve design issues early.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel across Europe as needed.
