What is regenerative coffee farming, and why does it matter? š±
Nature is important for coffee production, and coffee is important for nature.
Regenerative agriculture is a set of farming practices that work with nature, focusing on restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, protecting water resources and supporting farmer livelihoods.
Think practices like cover cropping (growing plants to protect the soil) and agroforestry (incorporating diverse trees into coffee farms to boost biodiversity, increase shade and diversify sources of income).
The result? Coffee farmers benefit from better yields and income, while the environment heals naturally through climate mitigation.
From Indonesia and Ethiopia to Vietnam, swipe to see how weāre working with our strategic partners to build thriving ecosystems that support coffee communities for generations to come. š

Smallholder farmers are the backbone of the global coffee sector, yet many still face challenges like low yields and inconsistent quality. Together with our partners, weāre working to make coffee production more resilient.
In Ethiopia, our Regrow Yirga project with TechnoServe has trained 56,911 farmers ā 44% of them women ā and renovated over 2.3 million coffee trees through stumping. The result: increased yields and a more resilient coffee sector.
In Honduras, alongside Fundacion CoHonducafe, weāre providing technical assistance and training to 14,940 coffee farmers, with a strong focus on ādry corridorā regions which have extreme climate conditions.
To date, over 22,000 hectares of coffee are under regenerative agricultural practices, promoting climate adaptation and natural resource management, and weāve planted 978,174 diverse tree species.
This is how we ensure a coffee for every cup. šŖ

Results are in! Regenerative farming is better for the economy, communities and our climate. š
JDE Peet's is proud to support the Regenerative Coffee Investment Case from TechnoServe, a landmark study that outlines the potential return on scaling proven regenerative farming practices with smallholder farmers across nine key coffee-growing countries.
The report shows that regenerative farming could lead to:
š 62% increase in income for 3.2 million farms
š 30% increase in coffee exports for 7 countries
š 38% decrease in coffee emissions across 2.7 million coffee hectares
Over the past 10 years, weāve championed regenerative agriculture through our Common Grounds sustainability program, working directly with coffee farmers across the globe. As our very own Nadia Hoarau-Mwaura says, this detailed study offers a clear, practical path to implementing regenerative agriculture at scale ā one that requires industry-wide collaboration.

How can innovative partnerships help the coffee industry address environmental challenges while supporting farmer livelihoods? This Earth Day, weāre showing whatās possible. šš¤
In Tanzania, for the last four years, weāve partnered with 4C Services, Karagwe District Cooperative Union (KDCU), Touton SA, and DEG to help farmers reduce GHG emissions from coffee production by 22.4%, compared to the baseline calculation, while boosting yields and income.
Over 8,104 farmers ā including more than 2,472 women and 1,448 youth ā were trained in climate-smart and good agricultural practices like agroforestry and mulching. 44 demonstration plots were established as key learning centres for farmers, supported by a locally relevant training curriculum.
The programme also focused on diversifying farmers' incomes and improving soil health by introducing crops such as avocado, macadamia, mango, and mihumula, with over 326,802 seedlings distributed to farmers for intercropping. šæ
The solutions we need are already in the hands of farmers. Weāre investing in them to power a more sustainable future for coffee, for the environment, and the communities behind every cup. šŖ

Soil serves as the cornerstone of life, supplying 95% of our foodāincluding coffee and teaāand is essential in the fight against climate change.UN reports indicate that the planet loses 24 billion tons of fertile land each year. Soil depletion makes it harder for the soil to help fight climate change by absorbing carbon. Meanwhile, climate change worsens soil problems like erosion and salinisation. JDE Peet's is committed to protecting this important resource by using sustainable practices.
In Brazil, for example, we empower smallholder coffee farmers with regenerative techniques like cover cropping, improving fertility, reducing erosion, and boosting carbon sequestration (capturing and storing atmospheric carbon). In Colombia, weāre addressing soil erosion and degradation by promoting contour planting, organic fertilisers, and innovative solutions like turning coffee pulp into compost to improve structure and water retention, and biogas, all while supporting local farmers and empowering women.
Our commitment to soil is an important aspect of our Common Grounds program and one of our nine focus areas in our Responsible Sourcing Principles. Africa is home to some of the worldās most celebrated coffee regions, and to millions of smallholder farmers whose livelihoods depend on it.
But across the continent, low productivity and the climate crisis are putting these communities under immense pressure.
Thatās why our approach starts in the fields, side by side with farmers. Our agronomist, Dafrosa Sanga, travels across Africa, building relationships, listening, and sharing knowledge together with partners, and local communities. Together, we focus on three core priorities:
š± Helping farmers adapt to changing climates through sustainable farming techniques.
š¤ Supporting inclusive opportunities for youth and women farmers.
š” Building skills and capacity to improve yields, diversify incomes, and secure livelihoods.
By being on the ground, seeing the challenges firsthand, and connecting farmers with the right partners, our local agronomists help ensure coffee can continue to thrive for generations to come.

Vietnam is one of the most important sources of our coffee. However, coffee production here faces serious challenges: climate change, deforestation, soil degradation and the overuse of chemicals and water resources.
These issues are complex and cannot be solved by any single organisation alone. Thatās why weāre leading with collective action.
Our agronomist, Sy Do Ngoc, travels across the country to meet farmers, listening to their challenges and offering practical advice on regenerative farming practices that protect the environment and improve livelihoods. š±

Decaf is a great way to enjoy an afternoon coffee, but did you know "decaf" doesn't mean "no caffeine"? š¤
For this week's #CupofTrivia, we're busting myths about decaf coffee.
Decaf coffee comes from ordinary coffee beans that have gone through the decaffeination process, removing up to 97% of their caffeine while preserving flavour.
This means decaf still contains trace amounts of caffeine, about 2-5mg per cup ā but nowhere near the 70-140mg in a normal cup of coffee!
Our Peet's Coffee Major Dickasonās blend delivers the same depth of flavour as our Peet's standard blends, without the energy boost of caffeine, so you can manage your energy levels your way. This is just one of the many ways we deliver a coffee for every cup. āļø
