Position: Transportation Specialist II
Location: NL-Sevenum, Netherlands (Maarten de Vriesstraat)
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safe and cost-effective delivery of company and customer-owned products.
- Maintain inbound and outbound routing guides and monitor compliance.
- Monitor and report on carrier performance, conduct regular reviews with carriers, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Support carriers and distribution centers in resolving issues related to loading, unloading, appointment scheduling, and daily pick-up execution.
- Administer freight payment programs; monitor the payment process and ensure accurate reporting.
- Support the development and implementation of cost-saving and process improvement initiatives involving carriers, suppliers, warehouse operations, and other logistics providers.
- Prepare reports and presentation materials as required by department leadership. Collaborate with Product Management, Finance, Sales, and other internal stakeholders involved in transportation activities.
Interaction
- Organize and participate in operational meetings with carriers.
- Host and/or attend Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with transportation providers.
- Prepare meeting documentation and track action items.
- Manage and monitor carrier performance, including KPIs and service levels.
- Conduct market research on transportation trends, services, and benchmarks.
- Develop understanding of carrier services and operational capabilities.
- Lead or support freight rate negotiations.
- Handle RFQ processes and ad hoc rate requests.
- Translate customer requirements into feasible carrier solutions.
- Draft, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and transportation contracts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven negotiation skills and a commercially driven mindset.
- In-depth market insight and awareness of current transportation dynamics.
- Customer-oriented and solution-focused approach.
- Flexible attitude and ability to adapt (no 9-to-5 mentality).
- Experience with Oracle or other TMS systems is a plus.
- Solid understanding of parcel, road, air, and ocean freight operations.
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in Logistics, Transportation, or Supply Chain Management).
- Typically requires 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fluency in English (German or other languages are a plus).
