Vacaturebeschrijving

Postdoc Imaging of Spin-wave Mixing Using Solid-state Spins

Research in the van der Sar lab:

Our lab studies how interacting charges and spins move through materials at the micro-to-nano-scale. To this end, the lab has developed a technique for imaging spin waves - microscopic waves in magnetic materials - based on magnetic sensing with nitrogen-vacancy (NV) spins in diamond. Such waves play a central role in the thermodynamics of magnets and could enable information technology with new functionalities due to their microscale wavelengths at microwave frequencies, strong interactions, and low intrinsic dissipation.

Job description:

The goal of this postdoc project is to realize spin-based spin-wave imaging at arbitrary frequencies and use spin-wave mixing to enable the detection of microwaves that are far detuned from the spin sensors.

Job requirements

The project revolves around NV centers in diamond, single-spin control, magnetization dynamics, single-photon and atomic-force microscopy, microwave engineering, cleanroom fabrication, and electronic characterization. Experience in these fields is highly desirable, though not strictly required. Most importantly, you should be highly enthusiastic, skilled and motivated to develop state-of-the-art NV microscopy. A PhD degree in physics and fluency in English are required.
