We’re seeking a hands-on, solution-oriented Technician/Handyman who takes pride in maintaining and enhancing the hotel’s historic charm and impeccable standards. From routine repairs to assisting on larger maintenance projects, your skills and attention to detail will keep our iconic building running smoothly for guests and colleagues alike.
Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, part of the Dalata Hotel Group, is a 4-star, 173-room hotel nestled in one of the most beautiful art nouveau buildings in the Netherlands. Home to the legendary Café Americain and Bar Americain, you’ll play a key role in preserving this unique property’s quality, safety, and welcoming atmosphere.
Objective of the Role
As a Technician/Handyman at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, you’ll take pride in maintaining the hotel’s iconic Art Nouveau building, ensuring every corner is safe, functional, and visually impeccable. From handling everyday repairs and preventive maintenance to supporting larger renovation projects, you’ll be the go-to problem solver who keeps our property running smoothly. This hands-on role requires creativity, technical skill, and a proactive approach — perfect for someone who loves variety, working with their hands, and making an immediate impact behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
Own Your Space
- Take charge of maintenance and repair tasks across the hotel, from equipment and lighting to sanitary installations and furniture.
- Keep your workspace and tools organised, clean, and ready for action at all times.
Lead with Precision
- Carry out minor painting, wallpapering, and general handyman work to maintain the hotel’s beautiful Art Nouveau character.
- Perform regular inspection rounds, using checklists to identify issues and document your findings accurately.
Think Ahead & Stay Prepared
- Anticipate maintenance needs and flag potential problems before they affect guest experience.
Collaborate & Communicate
- Work closely with all hotel departments to ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues.
- Share insights and improvements to help enhance the hotel’s upkeep and safety standards.
Keep It Clean & Safe
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene protocols in every task you undertake — for yourself, your colleagues, and the guests.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for a Technician/Handyman who brings skill, reliability, and a can-do attitude to keep our iconic hotel in top shape. Here’s what makes a great fit:
- Relevant technical experience or vocational training in maintenance, repair, or a related field
- Hands-on skills with a variety of tools and practical fixes — e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and so forth
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to maintenance issues
- Good communication skills in English or Dutch (additional languages are a plus)
- Physically fit and comfortable working on your feet, lifting up to 25kg, and handling tools safely
- A team player who collaborates well and takes pride in delivering quality work
- Flexible to work weekdays, (sometimes) weekends, and handle urgent calls if needed
