Principle responsibilities and position purpose:

As a Demi Chef de Partie in the Team Member Restaurant at Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals for hotel colleagues, ensuring they have nutritious, delicious food that enables them to deliver exceptional experiences to our guests.

Your role is essential in supporting team morale, performance, and overall colleague satisfaction, creating a welcoming and motivating dining experience that reflects the appreciation and value Waldorf Astoria places on its team members.

You will actively engage with colleagues, listen to feedback, and continuously strive to elevate the quality and variety of the culinary offerings.

Essential functions:

  • Prepares all food items according to standardized recipes, maintaining consistency and ensuring high nutritional value and taste for colleagues.

  • Regularly inspects and monitors the quality and freshness of ingredients, especially fresh produce and protein items, to ensure optimal nutrition and flavor.

  • Ensures all kitchen equipment and work areas are clean, hygienic, and comply with Health Department regulations, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.

  • Responsible for effective inventory management and portion control to minimize waste and manage budgets efficiently.

  • Collaborates closely with supervisors to create menu offerings that cater to diverse dietary preferences and nutritional needs of colleagues.

  • Will support the kitchen team whenever needed or required

Supportive functions:

In addition to performing essential functions, this position may involve:

  • General cleaning tasks using standard hotel-approved products.

  • Maintaining cleanliness and safety of kitchen floors to avoid slip/fall accidents.

  • Assisting with the transportation and storage of supplies and equipment.

  • Performing other duties as requested to support the kitchen and colleague restaurant operations.

Specific job knowledge, skill and ability:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Solid working knowledge of various cooking methods including grilling, sautéing, frying, roasting, and steaming.

  • Understanding and implementation of high sanitation standards.

  • Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment including ovens, broilers, steamers, and kettles.

  • Basic mathematical skills necessary for recipe adherence, accurate measurement, and portion control.

  • Ability to clearly communicate in English to effectively interact with colleagues and supervisors.

  • Manual dexterity required for using kitchen tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Physical ability to lift and transport items up to 100 lbs and stand continuously during shifts.

  • Capability to perform tasks effectively within varying temperature environments.
