As ML/AI Engineer, you design and implement innovative software capabilities for our Genedata Vico platform, focusing on digitalizing CMC. The platform is co-developed with several of the top 25 biopharma companies worldwide and you will therefore work where software engineering meets applied AI, on genuinely hard data: heterogeneous, high-volume, and scientifically challenging. You will contribute to growing our platform that transforms data into reliable assets for training ML models, under GxP-grade engineering conditions. This is a problem space that rewards both algorithmic depth and engineering excellence.
This position is part of the Genedata Profiler Business Unit in Munich, Germany, and is a hybrid role with three days per week in office presence.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design and implement process critical ML and AI functionalities such as data pipelines, model evaluation processes, agent orchestration and harness engineering, and closed learning loops that allow to feed wet lab results back into model training processes
- Work directly with our scientists and product managers on translating complex CMC workflows into reliable, maintainable software solutions
- Contribute to scientist-facing tools that surface AI outputs and enable critical decision making
- Own the ML model lifecycle end-to-end: versioning, evaluation, monitoring, and iterative model improvement as new manufacturing data arrives
The essential requirements of the job include:
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field
- Proven experience writing performance-critical software solutions in Java, C++, Python, or a comparable language, in a research or production setting
- You have designed and implemented systems that handle complex, high-volume data, with a strong focus on algorithmic efficiency, correctness, and long-term maintainability
- You think carefully about system design and engineering trade-offs, and produce well-tested, well-reviewed code within a project team
- You work well in a collaborative environment and can translate scientific challenges into clear requirements and ultimately into new software capabilities
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Deep learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow, JAX) and applying ML to scientific or structured data
- Large language models: RAG, tool use, agentic frameworks, AI harness engineering, or orchestration libraries (LangGraph, PydanticAI)
- Databases: relational e.g. PostgreSQL, in a data-intensive or ML context
- Life sciences, computational biology, or biopharma; prior domain knowledge is a plus
- Familiarity with web application development, including React or similar frontend frameworks
