We're looking for a Junior Relationship Manager (Senior Associate / AVP) for our Corporate Banking Department Europe to join our team in Frankfurt or Düsseldorf.
This role offers the opportunity to develop a career in corporate banking within SMBC's principal coverage team for non-Japanese corporate clients across the DACH region. Working closely with senior Relationship Managers, you will gain broad exposure to client coverage, credit analysis, transaction execution, and cross-product business development while building strong relationships with corporate clients and internal stakeholders across the Bank.
About this role
Corporate Banking Department Europe is responsible for covering non-Japanese corporate clients across Europe, with a particular focus on the DACH region. The team works closely with product specialists across Trade Finance, Structured Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Treasury, and other business areas to deliver tailored banking solutions and support the growth of client relationships.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Supporting senior Relationship Managers in the development and management of client relationships, including the preparation of client briefings, pitch materials, meeting documentation, and call reports
- Assisting in the identification of business opportunities and promoting relevant SMBC products and services in collaboration with product partners across the Group
- Supporting the preparation of credit applications, business cases, and marketing plans in line with the Bank's credit strategy and client objectives
- Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients and internal stakeholders, helping to ensure the smooth delivery of products and services
- Coordinating KYC, AML, onboarding, loan closing, and other transaction-related processes in partnership with Compliance, Operations, Credit, and product teams
- Maintaining accurate records of client interactions and business activities through relevant CRM and internal systems
- Supporting broader departmental initiatives and ad hoc projects while contributing to the achievement of CBDE2's business objectives
Profile Description
For you to succeed in this role
- Apprenticeship in banking and/or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- Approximately 2-3 years of relevant experience within corporate banking, commercial banking, financial services, or a related environment
- Understanding of corporate finance principles, lending products, and banking services; knowledge of capital markets would be advantageous
- Native-level German and fluent English, both written and spoken
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information and support sound commercial decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A collaborative mindset, cultural awareness, and the ability to work effectively within international and cross-functional teams
- Self-motivation, resilience, and a proactive approach to learning and professional development
- Experience supporting corporate clients within a banking or financial services environment
- Knowledge of credit analysis, lending processes, KYC/AML requirements, or transaction execution activities
- Exposure to corporate banking products such as Trade Finance, Structured Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Treasury, or related areas
- Additional language skills and experience working within international or multicultural organisations would be advantageous
