How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Commissioning Engineer - Water & Wastewater

    London (with site travel as required)
    45 hours per week

    Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a major main contractor delivering complex water and wastewater process engineering projects. This role is critical to ensuring safe, compliant, and right‑first‑time installation, testing, and commissioning from design through to handover.

    You will play a leading role across the full commissioning lifecycle, working closely with design teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to deliver high‑quality outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commissioning & Technical Delivery

    Provide full lifecycle commissioning input from design through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
    Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation.
    Undertake hands‑on commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, and process systems.
    Lead and witness FAT and SAT activities, managing defect close‑out.
    Review and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics, FDS, P&IDs, and initiate design changes where required.
    Configure and calibrate analytical equipment and integrate with monitoring systems.
    Troubleshoot issues using structured, analytical problem‑solving techniques.Installation & Site Activities

    Coordinate and supervise installation and commissioning activities, including third‑party engineers.
    Act as front‑line supervisor during installation and commissioning phases.
    Ensure quality, snag‑free installation and commissioning delivery.
    Verify equipment is FAT tested and snag‑free prior to site delivery.
    Ensure capture and documentation of installation, testing, and commissioning data.Safety, Quality & Compliance

    Promote and implement SHEQ behavioural improvement initiatives.
    Review and approve RAMS for commissioning activities.
    Ensure compliance with standards, statutory legislation, ITPs, and safety rules.
    Apply best practice, technical bulletins, and lessons learned consistently.Management, Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

    Monitor supply chain performance against KPIs/KPMs and drive improvement.
    Contribute to and manage inputs to the overall project programme.
    Produce timely progress and status reports for senior management and the Core Management Team.
    Contribute to client reports and management briefings.
    Support Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through site surveys and system reviews.
    Deliver training to client operations and maintenance teams.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Essential

    Experience working for a main contractor on water and wastewater process engineering projects.
    HNC / Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or engineering apprenticeship with NVQ and multi‑discipline experience.
    Minimum 3 years' experience in a commissioning role within the water industry.
    Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical installation and commissioning processes.
    ECS (CSCS) Card.
    Water Hygiene Card.
    SSSTS or SMSTS.
    BS7671 18th Edition.
    First Aid at Work.

    Desirable

    Professional registration and membership.
    CompEx qualifications.
    Experience undertaking Electrical AP or Mechanical AP roles.

    Personal Attributes

    Meticulous, structured, and organised.
    Pro‑active with a strong engineering focus.
    Approachable and confident when client‑facing.
    Able to self‑manage and lead site teams when required.
    Comfortable challenging designs and delivering value engineering solutions.
