A well-established multi-disciplinary building services consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware engineer to play a key role in the delivery of high-profile projects across multiple sectors.
The consultancy is recognised for delivering innovative and sustainable design solutions across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, mixed-use, and infrastructure developments. Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, the business is looking to appoint a motivated engineer capable of leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the mechanical design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion. The position offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, contribute to business development activities, and support the strategic growth of the mechanical engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of building services systems including HVAC, public health, and sustainable solutions
Manage projects through all RIBA stages
Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
Produce and review technical specifications, reports, and detailed design calculations
Attend client and design team meetings
Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians
Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon design strategiesRequirements
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Approximately 6–10 years’ experience within a building services consultancy environment
Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services design
Experience leading projects and liaising directly with clients
Proficiency with industry-standard software including Revit, IES, Hevacomp, or similar
Knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards
Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageousSalary & Benefits
£55,000 – £70,000 depending on experience
