How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    2nd Line Support Engineer (Infrastructure)
    Location: Hybrid / UK-based
    Contract Length: 6 months
    IR35 Status: Outside IR35

    Overview

    We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented 2nd Line Support Engineer to support and maintain server infrastructure across both on-premise and cloud environments. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with solid foundational experience who is looking to deepen their skills across infrastructure, backend systems, and some frontend/server-facing technologies.

    You will work closely with senior engineers to support, monitor, and maintain systems, assist with upgrades, and ensure platform stability within a highly regulated environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide 2nd line support for physical and virtual server environments
    Monitor system performance, investigate issues, and carry out troubleshooting across backend infrastructure
    Support and maintain Windows Server platforms (basic Linux exposure beneficial)
    Assist with server upgrades, patching, and migration activities (Windows & SQL Server)
    Support core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
    Work with monitoring tools to ensure system availability and performance
    Assist in maintaining security standards and compliance requirements
    Collaborate with senior engineers and other teams on infrastructure improvements
    Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
    Key Skills & Experience

    Experience in a 2nd Line Support or similar infrastructure support role
    Working knowledge of Windows Server environments
    Basic understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
    Experience troubleshooting server, application, or infrastructure issues
    Awareness of backend systems and how they interact with frontend services
    Exposure to SQL Server (support, basic queries, or maintenance tasks)
    Familiarity with monitoring tools and alerting systems
    Understanding of security and compliance in regulated environments (desirable)
    Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS (beneficial but not essential)
    Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell or similar) is a plus
