Senior Vice President Medicinal Chemistry

To leading the total medicinal chemistry department (40 p.) and its projects. Representing the organization at international symposia, scientific and business meetings (scientific marketing).
Member of the Merchachems´ Management Team.  Key tasks:

  • Supervision and expansion of internal and external medchem capabilities and services.

  • Supervision of medicinal chemistry project managers and projects.

  • Contribution to BD marketing and acquisition plan for medchem services.

  • Scientific marketing (visits and presentations to clients, prospects, conferences).

  • Preparation of project plans and proposals.

  • Set-up and supervision of collaborations screening companies or service providers.

  • Contribution to long-term corporate strategy.

  • Ph.D/Post Doctoral Fellowship in Synthetic or Medicinal Chemistry.

  • Minimum of ten year’s practical Medicinal Chemistry laboratory and management.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech and/or drug discovery service industry.

  • Previous supervisory experience in pharmaceutical company.

  • Previous experience in leadership of Medicinal Chemistry projects, especially in Hit-to-Lead and Lead Optimisation Phases, leading to the delivery of Pre-Clinical Candidates.

  • Experience on kinases, GPCR's, proteases, ion channels and/or PPI, etc.

  • Experience with collaborative models in medicinal chemistry.

Their key areas of expertise include synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and process R&D.

Mercachem was founded in 1997. Originally a spin-off company from the Radboud University of Nijmegen, by 2003 Mercachem had expanded to 50 employees. Expansion allowed the company to respond to the growing outsourcing trend. Services include parallel chemistry (2002) and process research services (2005). Opening of their new facilities in 2006 allowed expansion into medicinal chemistry services (2008).The aquisition of our GMP production facility in Prague (CZ) is a strong support of their business and allows complex projects from discovery chemistry to production.

Mercachem’s company ethos of open communication and shared knowledge requires an open-doors policy. This is reflected in the design of their buildings, which facilitates close working relationships.

Today Mercachem employs 150 people; 135 of which are active scientists in the laboratory. Their scientists were all educated at renowned institutions; 45% to Ph.D. level. Mercachem is an international company and this is also reflected by the diverse nationalities of their employees.
