The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) makes an important contribution to solving the complex technical and social challenges that we face as a society. Challenges such as energy, climate, mobility, IT, water and cyber security. This requires a multidisciplinary approach that goes beyond technology. Our education and research are therefore at the intersection of technology, society and management. We combine insights from the engineering sciences with those from the humanities and social sciences. We develop robust models and designs, are internationally oriented, and have extensive networks in science and practice.

The Postdoc researcher will conduct research on designing digital platforms for sharing non-personal data through data marketplaces. Specific focus points are business models, architectures and/or governance models for data platforms. Methods will include (action) design research, survey research and case studies.
The Postdoc will work in two interlinked EU-projects.The first aims to launch a pan-European data marketplace platform (www.trusts-data.eu). The second designs enabling technologies for privacy-preserving data platforms (www.safe-deed.eu). Through the projects, there are opportunities to collaborate with several academic partners as well as over 15 businesses.
During the Postdoc, the applicant will conduct research and prepare scientific articles presenting the research. Specific tasks will be defined in further discussions. Depending on preferences, the PostDoc can take a role in leading tasks and/or engaging stakeholders for reach-out. There is also the opportunity to gain experience in supervising PhD students in both projects as well as to engage in teaching.
The applicant will be mentored by Dr Mark de Reuver (Associate Professor, leads the digital platforms research theme) and Dr Anneke Zuiderwijk (Assistant Professor, leads the open data research theme). The PostDoc will be part of a young and vibrant research community.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research project, the applicant will have a relative large degree of freedom concerning the specific research path.
The Postdoc researcher will be positioned in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) section, within the Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) department of TPM. The core activity of the department is to model, understand, forecast, and shape emerging technological innovations and user patterns in the sectors of energy, mobility and ICT, and use these insights for improved design, regulation and operation of such engineering systems.
The ICT section has world-leading research programs on digital platforms and ecosystems, open data, and digital business models.
The digital platforms program focuses on how to design multi-sided and open platforms that create economic and societal value. Designing digital platforms requires understanding of architectural and governance issues (e.g. degree of openness) as well as business model and user issues (e.g. value-creation through multi-sidedness).
The open data program focuses on how to design infrastructural and institutional arrangements that incentivize open data sharing and use behavior of different actors (e.g. companies, governments, researchers) from different domains (e.g. different industries, research disciplines).
The applicant should have a PhD in information sciences, information systems, computer science, (digital) business or related fields. We seek candidates with a personal drive to improve and acquire new knowledge. Furthermore, applicants should demonstrate a solid background in articulating themselves in English.Arbeidsvoorwaarden
