Design at Booking is responsible for conceptualising, designing, and creating the user experience and user interfaces for all of Booking’s digital products. The designers consider each human interaction — including every visual, audible, and haptic experience — to create products that are not only beautiful, but also intuitive and useful for our customers.
Principal Designers at Booking.com are design leaders and experts in the discipline who serve as role models via the display of mature talent, impeccable communication, depth of skill and experience, and the production of work that is of the utmost quality. They are the strongest advocates for the customer within the company, working across teams and tracks to help ensure products and services are coherent, cohesive, and always serve the best interests of the customer.
Ideal candidates should have exceptional brand, visual, and interaction design skills, proven design leadership and influence, and a depth of experience working across the entire software design process: from conducting and leveraging research (quantitative and qualitative) to prototyping and fine implementation to testing and evaluation. They will have had experience leading cross-functional product design and development efforts intended to drive engagement and business value. They will have participated or led the entire process from inception to execution.
The Principal Designer thinks about our brand and customer experience holistically, identifies ways to simplify and unify the user experience, and seeks to build seamlessly connected products. Work includes collaborating with our marketing, product and technology teams, managing multiple stakeholders, and producing world-class experiences for our millions of customers.
The Principal Designer sets the quality bar others follow and does whatever it takes to improve the customer experience. The Principal Designer is willing to make unpopular decisions when the quality of the user experience is at risk and is capable of artfully influencing user experience team members and business stakeholders. Candidates should be well versed in designing for all manner of devices and platforms, have a track-record of designing full products and services, and partner equally well with core researchers or designers, senior copywriters, and directors of product management.
Principal Designers atBooking.com must be excellent communicators and collaborators, thrive in high-paced, dynamic environments, and display influence and humility. A plus for this role is experience within a Marketing and Brand organization or a role in which partnership between Marketing and Product was a crucial area of investment.
We're looking for designers with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in design leadership positions. Past experience working in ecommerce sites, mobile apps, or in data-driven product development teams is a plus. Must present a portfolio of work which illustrates visual design and interaction design excellence, data driven decisions, end to end customer experience design, and business impact.
