In the capacity of a Senior Category Cheese Buyer, you will be ensuring External Manufacturing procurement resources are effectively utilized to service the business needs, continuously improving the way we source to contract on External Manufacturing projects, drive closer alignment with business on Make-or-Buy projects.

You will have extensive contact with strategic 3rd party vendors and internal customers like sales, commercialization, quality, regulatory and procurement teams as well as supply chain incl. planning organization.

  • Strategy development to manage assigned 3rd party cheese activities and spend (Co-Manufacturing, Co-Ripening, Additional Purchase of Finished Products according to specifications), setting priorities as needed to optimize sales growth, drive innovation and secure supply during peak periods
  • Support Structural Business Partnering by developing successful, strategic relationships between customers and suppliers, based on achieving best practice and sustainable competitive advantage
  • Service Business Units across multiple OpCos by supporting new product launches, line extensions, product substitutions, transitions and discontinuations, attending project meetings, contributing to sustainability and ad-hoc information requests
  • Provide supply market intelligence including conducting market studies to identify new vendors and develop a robust supplier base
  • Support Make-or-Buy analysis and provide input and solutions in commercialization meetings as they relate to co-manufacturing, co-ripening or additional purchase solutions
  • Develop RFxs, analyze and recommend scenarios to stakeholders to select optimal 3rd party vendors for business/product launch opportunities taking into consideration capabilities, capacity, speed, risk management, strategic business opportunities and retail business priorities
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding margin and sales targets
  • Work closely with business procurement and development teams, commercialization managers and quality team to ensure seamless and timely product launches from quotation to launch implementation and leveraging on synergies in the global sourcing process
  • Drafting, negotiation and execution of Supply Agreements to cover scope, quality, time, cost of service as well as other contract terms and conditions, in cooperation with RFC Legal, Quality and S&OP teams and Business Leads
  • Manage the overall vendor relationship to ensure business needs are met and provide visibility on performance and quality related challenges which might compromise the business
  • Following the TCO approach, connect internal and external teams to implement continuous improvement programs which will be sustainable, evaluating opportunities to reduce costs, improve service level and product quality
  • Commercial Contract management includes upholding the contracts for all assigned 3rd party co-manufacturers, challenging issues when applicable, leading final finished goods specification review with R&D, supporting product supply on inventory and material obsolescence
  • Involvement in setting up & reviewing SHEQA requirements, procedures, and instructions
  • Establishing and managing budgets including tracking of variances
  • Structurally monitor and document progress keeping internal and external stakeholders informed
  • Assist in training and developing Team Members on cheese product knowledge

Your profile

  • Passion for natural foods and products and experience in the food-processing industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cheese and specialty products (Dutch and International types) in cutting, production, ripening (nature and foil) and taste
  • Good category knowledge, including distribution, seasonal availability, advances and trends. Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – natural curiosity and ability to sell proactively
  • Excellent negotiating skills; recognized purchasing qualification as plus
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic sustainable initiatives, and lead change
  • Effective Project Management skills including ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, multi-cultural, matrix environment; demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to provide mentoring and coaching to seasoned professionals of the extended team by educating team on product knowledge and conveying enthusiasm
  • Ability to influence senior leaders within the business and manufacturing organization
  • Strong work ethic and integrity as well as high decision making skills (informed, un-biased decision taking based on different scenarios of a Business case)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in recognizing and accomplishing all tasks where there is a direct job responsibility
  • Data analysis capability and financial acumen
  • MS Office experience required; SAP knowledge is beneficial
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Operations Manufacturing Management, Quality, Food Science, Engineering or any other related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in strategic sourcing, 3rd party manufacturing management, purchasing, planning, supply chain or product management
  • Minimum of 10 years combined experience in manufacturing, business development or HQ business team experience
  • Excellent skills in English; further capabilities like Dutch, French, German, Spanish enhance the options
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
