Technician Delft Planetary Laboratories

Technician for the Delft Planetary laboratory at Aerospace Engineering

Job description

At the faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Delft Planetary Laboratory is newly established and consists of four instruments. These instruments reproduce the conditions on planets and moons in the solar system at very cold temperatures and pressures, representative of asteroids and icy moon surfaces, or at very hot temperatures and high pressures, representative of planetary interiors such as Venus.

Setting up these instruments and maintaining them is an important effort. The technician for this position will centralize the maintenance of the different instruments, help with the further development of set-ups, keep track of the consumables, and ensure safety, support and training when the instruments are used by external users. The different instruments cover large domains of pressures (from vacuum to hydrolic press) and temperatures (from -250 Celcius to thousands of Celcius), as well as a variety of analytical techniques (spectroscopy, mass spectrometry). In this versatile environment, no single day will be the same!

Requirements

  • Hold an HBO/MBO diploma.
  • Experience in vacuum systems, cryogenics, radiation sources, mass spectrometry and spectroscopy.
  • Additional laboratory and research experience in industrial or academic settings is a plus.
  • Exhibit a passion for teaching, with prior teaching experience being a valuable asset.
  • Showcase strong organizational and time management skills, complemented by excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication in both Dutch and English, both orally and in writing. If Dutch proficiency is at a basic level, language courses are available.

Conditions of employment

  • A salary based on scale 9 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3.377,- and a maximum of € 4.640,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
  • The possibility to compile an individual employment package every year.
  • Discount with health insurers.
  • Flexible working week.
  • Every year, 232 leave hours (at 38 hours). You can also sell or buy additional leave hours via the individual choice budget.
  • Plenty of opportunities for education, training and courses.
  • Partially paid parental leave
  • Attention for working healthy and energetically with the vitality program.
