Trade Compliance Specialist

As a Trade Compliance Specialist you are a key member of the Trade Compliance team where you will play a critical role in the development and maintenance of procedures and processes to ensure compliance of our operations within EAI for import and export procedures. In your role you will work closely together with your (global) Trade Compliance team members where everyone will have focus areas.
You will interface with the Supply Chain organization, Corporate Compliance, Product specialists, Procurement, Legal in addition to many external trade partners such as customs authorities and custom brokers on all matters pertaining to trade compliance. The dynamic nature of LyondellBasell requires individuals who can think quickly, act independently, and proactively solve problems before they arise. Strong customer service skills and effective communication are required.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Among others:
Acts as center of excellence for general trade compliance matters for our Supply Chain partners

• Serves as subject matter expert for proper use of Incoterms for import and export transactions
• Create trade and customs awareness within the Supply Chain organization by conducting training on trade compliance procedures and regulatory rules
• Support, control and coordination of all trade/customs processes in relation to our Customs brokers
• Assign and maintain HS classifications for LYB products and act as center of excellence in relation to product classification for internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with technical team to ensure proper HS classification of LYB products.
• Develop, execute and monitor customized import, export controls and supply chain compliance training programs for internal and external stakeholders.
• Manages and resolves trade compliance issues within the EAI region; implements corrective actions as required
• Support sanctions and embargos programs and restricted/denied party screening resolution
• Monitor legislation and manage actions for appropriate changes within the LYB organization
• Develop, execute and monitor regular and periodic compliance reviews and assessments (internal & external) with respect to our control framework to ensure compliance.
• Monitor EAI customs and trade legislation and communicates and distributes specific trade compliance procedures across LyondellBasell organization in accordance with corporate policy on international trade.
• Analyzing existing trade processes and targets to streamline, minimizing complexity and continually optimizing the effectiveness of the trade flow in line with trade and corporate compliance policies/regulations.
• Design tools and performance reports to provide awareness and measure effectiveness of import, export controls and supply chain compliance programs supporting our KPI’s.
• Provide oversight of trade activities of LYB by developing and maintaining all necessary performance metric reports.
• Responsible for ensuring the compliance requirements of the existing customs licenses and adjusting/applying for new customs licenses

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience (Degree in Customs and Trade a plus)
• Minimum of 4-6 years work experience in the customs/trade compliance area (customs authorities, customs brokers or corporate multi-national environment). People within a similar role within an International environment with 2 years experience are welcome to apply
• Proven knowledge of customs and trade regulations
• Fluent in English (Dutch, German and/or French is a plus)

Preferred experience

• Experience in product classifications (experience in the Chemical sector is a plus)
• Knowledge of and experience with excise legislation and excise warehousing
• Demonstrated experience handling in AEO and customs special procedures (IPR, OPR, End Use, etc.)
• Experience managing SAP and global trade services
