The internal Audit Department for Aegon Netherlands (ANL) is a well-established Internal Audit Department, Head Quartered in The Hague, the Netherlands. Our purpose is to enhance and protect organizational value. To help the organization accomplish its objectives, Internal Audit is providing independent and objective assurance and consulting activities. Via a risk based approach we are evaluating and improving the effectiveness of Aegon’s governance, risk management and internal control processes.

Entities in scope are all ANL business lines and support departments, including wholly-owned and licensed subsidiaries (e.g. Aegon Levensverzekering N.V., Aegon Schade, Aegon Spaarkas N.V., TKP B.V., Hypotheken B.V., Aegon Cappital B.V, Nedasco, Robidus).

Purpose of the role
The purpose of the Audit Managers’ role is to deliver added value to the various stakeholders in or outside the ANL organisation. It is the responsibility of the Audit Manager to direct, coordinate and execute the necessary audit work and information gathering required for the job. This includes: Key stakeholder account management, planning, executing and control of the annual planning process, planning and control of the audit process, motivating and mentoring team members of the audit project and sharing information and knowledge on internal and external developments of his or her area of attention (Subject Matter Expert role).

It is important to understand this role will require a substantial audit hands on approach, agility in thinking, demonstrate taking ownership and feeling responsible for the whole IAN team member regardless their specifics.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Show leadership in establishing the IAN objectives
  • Determine the Annual Risk Based Audit Plan (ANL, Cappital, sub’s)
  • Delivery of Risk Based Audit Services and Related Tasks
  • Active Stakeholder Management
  • Management Reporting/Quarterly Committee Reporting
  • Join or participate on behalf of the CAE ANL in the statutory committees of the entity of attention.
  • Active coaching to (senior) auditors
  • Actively share knowledge on relevant developments with the larger IAN team.
  • Make sure you (and (senior) auditors) stay connected with developments from outside from an internal audit perspective or from legislation / regulator perspective and bring to IAN
  • Stimulate, implement and monitor SME activities within IAN.

Know How & Professional Background

  • A minimum of 10 years of (internal) audit experience preferably in the Insurance, Pension fund or similar financial of industry on the aforementioned level. Demonstrated an interest in the products and business of Insurance or Pensions.
  • Proven leadership skills as a people manager and acting as a role model in engagement
  • In-depth knowledge (both theoretical and practicable) of: auditing, process control, management/strategic control, risk management, organisation, change management and information technology.
  • Data analytics skills.
  • Demonstrated being able to deal with different cultures, people and styles.
  • Demonstrated excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • University/higher education, preferably business economics/banking or think and act on Academic level due to having the right experience.
  • Finished post graduate professional Audit preferably one or more of the following: (Dutch) RA, (Dutch) RO, (Dutch) RE, (UK) ACCA, (US) CPA, (US) CIA or a (US) CFSA (or similar).
