At The Gate, business developers of Brainport Development and Eindhoven University of Technology offer honest and independent advice. The shared goal is to improve the quantity and quality of new high tech startups in the Brainport Eindhoven region.
Together with partners Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM), Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Summa College and the regional startup ecosystem, the business developers provide information and guidance on workspaces, access to finance, training and coaching to entrepreneurial students, researchers and tech starters in the region. Through The Gate they are ready for take-off.
The Gate is physically located in the Alpha Hub on the TU/e Campus, a new vibrant startup hub that also provides flexible and affordable office accommodation for startups.
The Gate is looking for an Advisor Intellectual Property to be part of the Business Development team of TU/e.
In this role you are engaged with the establishment and management of patents, Designs, and copyrights. You provide advice, information and business development support in the field of licensing, IP transfers and (international) contracts, including patent, copyright and design registration.
As an IP Advisor you will proactively contribute to the development and management the intellectual property (in particular patents) derived from customers/clients of The Gate (researchers, Student Teams and tech startups in the Brainport region). Core tasks include guiding the patent process and keeping intensive contact with the researchers, Student Teams, start-ups and external parties (in particular with patent offices). The IP Advisor identifies potentially patentable inventions, analyses them on relevant aspects and, in consultation with the involved parties, gives advice about the protection of the knowledge, including knowledge transfer and licensing.
You operate within the context of IP policy and procedures as well as the scientific interests. You lead the IP procedures and guide the customers in issues concerning the establishment of intellectual property rights.
You have an excellent understanding of a variety of IP arenas, and are able to assess new inventions for patentability, value and marketability. You are able to advise customers effectively on (contract) proposals and offer support in the development of business cases and negotiations about these inventions.
You play an important role in providing contractual and strategic IP advice to the clients of The Gate and you can liaise with market parties, such as industry and SME’s. Your role varies from process director to negotiator.
You enjoy providing entrepreneurial scientists and students with information in the domain of intellectual property. Also you contribute to creating awareness of the value of their work and help them to make business agreements with third parties, including the coordination of the necessary (administrative) procedures.
