Group Lead Product Research Grooming & Beauty

Job Description

In this role, you have the opportunity to

be responsible for our Product Research Center Grooming & Beauty team in Eindhoven. You will have the end-to-end Product Research accountability for the Beauty Intense Light Pulsed (IPL) category. This category is currently undergoing a transition towards medical device development, in line with changing EU medical device regulations. You will be the direct manager of a team of 4-6 members.

We are looking for someone that will bring solid experience in Medical Product Development and strong drive to bring user insights to the next level as well growing our impact by coaching your team.

You are responsible for

Managing a team of 4-6 product researchers. This includes:

  • Recruitment, mentoring and appraisal of team members;
  • Team building and employee engagement;
  • Competence development, in line with needs of the business;
  • Ensuring the quality and efficiency of the output of the team.
  • Review and approval functional documents/deliverables according to the Quality Management System.
  • Allocation of resources to activities and projects.
  • Support the business and projects in prioritization the roadmaps, project definition and project execution to ensure the deliver outstanding propositions based on deep consumer insights.
  • Establish and maintain functional procedures, guidelines and tools. This includes several process areas in the Quality Management System, such as usability engineering, validation, consumer testing, claims substantiation, instructions for use creation.
  • Staying up-to-date of technical and organizational development in own professional field and maintaining contacts with other R&D centers.
  • Responsibility for maintaining and improving the group's knowledge and expertise, for instance through benchmarking and by deploying knowledge management processes.
  • You report into the PRC director and are accountable for the IPL category in which the team members fulfill their role. You represent PRC in management review meetings
  • You extend our approach from information driven decision to consequence driven decisions.
  • You give advice and co-decide on human study classification, setup and execution

You are a part of

the management team in Product Research Center Grooming & Beauty which is responsible for representing the consumer within the Innovation and Development organization for the Grooming & Beauty product categories, ensuring the delivery on (consumer) promise for our Philips Value Propositions.

In Product Research, the key mission is to identify consumer needs, tension areas and to translate, verify and validate these insights throughout the innovation process. This will require various types of UX, User Research & clinical testing to help us reach this mission.

Our activities start with a focus on supporting value proposition definition and feature development all the way towards the final product development stage - working towards successful launches and consumer engagement. In this, being consumer centric is key. Linking in with the situation, habits and needs of consumers all around the world helps us in developing products that fulfill the Philips Brand promise “Innovation & You”.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Technical Masters degree, preferably in Human Technology Interaction, User Experience Design, Industrial Design Engineering, or other engineering discipline AND relevant experience in Consumer Research. You have a proven track record and experience (> 7 years) in user experience / product research, development and consumer behavior in international, multi-disciplinary, product development projects;
  • Experience with medical device development under MDD, MDR or FDA regulations, especially with usability engineering (IEC 62366) and risk management (ISO 14971).
  • Proven track record and passion for making teams and individuals grow.Broad experience in pre-development and product development of consumer products, solutions and services.
  • Experience in the medical device industry is required – as such, we are looking for sound understanding of medical regulations and standards (e.g. FDA 820.x, IEC60601, IEC62366, IEC62304, ISO13485, ISO14971, AAMI TIR45);
