Understanding dietary deficiencies in different geographical locations is important when designing products for specific consumers in general, but especially when products are aiming at helping to overcome children’s malnutrition. Knowing the biggest dietary gaps that need to be closed allows for most effective and affordable design of products. Malnutrition has both short and long term consequences, it increases children’s mortality, likelihood of developing chronic diseases, impairs brain development leading to lower IQ and overall lower success in life. Dietary deficiencies are traditionally identified in lengthy and costly human studies, which cannot be easily performed. There is however, a wealth of underutilized data that can be used to infer information about availability of nutrients in different countries.
