The Mission

The EMEA NanoPort team, within the Sales and Service Division (SSD), runs a state-of-the-art Electron Microscopy Centre of Excellence, supporting account managers and external Thermo Fisher Scientific customers in the Sciences and Industry markets. Key deliverables of the NanoPort team are:

  • The delivery of high-quality Customer Applications Training and Support, allowing users to obtain the best possible results from their instruments in the shortest possible time;
  • Carefully prepared Product and Workflow Demonstrations, based on a solid understanding of our customers’ application needs and highlighting the unique value of Thermo Scientific solutions in a highly competitive market;
  • Application contributions to new hardware and software Product Introductions;
  • The generation of Marketing Collateral and contributions to high-profile Workshops and Conferences.

The Position

The Application Scientist Life Sciences is responsible for customer demonstrations and sample jobs. They provide product training to our customers and supports R&D in the development of new products. We are looking for a person with a background in Small DualBeam (FIB-SEM); experience in cryo lamella preparation for TEM is highly desirable. Important part of this position is the onsite support of cryo tomography in leading edge research laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product demonstrations for customers
  • Onsite- and remote customer support
  • R&D support for the development of new products
  • System ownership and maintenance
  • Writing of application notes, best practice documents and scientific papers

The Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • A University degree in the Natural Sciences;
  • Hands on experience in the operation of SDB, preferably in cryo lamella preparation;
  • Strong attention to detail, a critical eye for quality, and a focus on continuous improvement;
  • Proven ability to prioritize and work with multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are key to the success of this position;
  • Fluent in English, with skills in German, Italian or French welcomed
  • A strong team player with a proven ability to interact with multi-cultural, cross-functional teams;
  • Able to travel internationally (up to 50%) and in possession of a valid passport.
