The technician will be working within the departments of Pathology & Medical Biology (PMB) of the University Medical Center Groningen, laboratory of Experimental Pulmonology and Inflammation Research (EXPIRE). Within PMB, multiple renowned research groups work on damage and repair processes in pathophysiological processes, using translational and multi-omic approaches (transcriptomics e.g. single cell RNA sequencing, proteomics etc), and state-of-the-art cellular and molecular techniques, to obtain insights into the mechanisms and novel therapeutic strategies for chronic inflammatory diseases.
The EXPIRE group exists of 20-30 researchers, including PhD students, technicians, post-docs and master/bachelor students. The candidate will work closely with other technicians and with clinicians from the department of Pulmonary Diseases. There is an extensive fundamental, patient-oriented line of investigation on the development, progression and treatment of lung diseases within the Pulmonology department.
The research is embedded within the Groningen Research Institute of Asthma and COPD, a multidisciplinary and translational institute. The technician will fulfill a central role in performing biomedical research, with a focus on the lung diseases asthma and COPD. The research has a highly translational approach with associated handling, processing and analyzing of patient derived samples. The candidate should be willing to pro-actively participate in general lab management tasks such as associated with ISO-regulatory matters and to collaborate closely with the clinic.
The candidate will be involved in the processing of patient material, facilitating the research and developing and implementing novel technologies within two consortium projects: DiscovAIR – Discovering the cellular landscape of the Airways and lungs, creating a cellular Atlas of the human lung and Precision Medicine for More Oxygen (P4O2). Patient materials will be derived from two large patient cohorts of asthma and COPD: the Astma Remissie (ARMS) and SHERLOCk (An integrative genomic approach to Solve tHe puzzle of sevERe earLy-Onset COPD) projects.
