We as Image Acquisition & Detection Group (IA&D) are one of the pillars of the Research and Development organization for our Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) Solutions portfolio. We are responsible for the image acquisition and detection platform as integral part of the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) systems. The platform integrates the different detection and image acquisition techniques used in TEM (imaging, EDS, STEM, etc.). It provides real time data processing capability and enables advanced user experiences, reduced time to information and increased ease of use.
The team is distributed between Brno in Czech Republic and Eindhoven in the Netherlands. We belong to the Material Science Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Our mission is to design, manufacture and sell industry leading new type of microscopes enabling our customers to work for instance on new drugs against viruses, new materials for batteries, smaller and smaller semiconductors.
Such developments require from us state of the art detection & imaging modules and sophisticated data processing.

As IA&D Module Architect for Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS), you are technically responsible for EDS spectroscopy modules to achieve robust, industry-leading products. The development projects cover all aspects of the subsystem, both HW & SW design, implementation, system integration and test according to customer specifications. Project execution takes place in a strong cooperation with our partners and suppliers.
In addition to securing the current position of the products in the market, we define the module roadmaps in close coordination with the overarching system roadmaps.
Build the module definitions in a team with the system architect, product manager, project leader and specialists.
Translate market & system requirements into module requirements, module architecture, module design; and convert those into sub-requirements for relevant functions and components
Optimize module-level performance (resolution, quality, efficiency, cost, …) during the initial phases of the developments by means of modeling and / or Design of Experiments
Maintain, expand and synchronize the module technical roadmap with the respective system roadmaps.
Seek for R&D efficiency by maximizing re-use of functions from other product lines as well as continuously improve obsolescence removal and prevention.
Build and maintain technical expertise within the EDS domain and scout for new technologies and developments in this area.
Support (through active support and knowledge transfer) marketing and sales activities in respect to customer support and interactions, and during quotation phases.
Typically requires +5 years of experience as technical lead role with proven record of working on complex solutions (hardware / software) from requirements’ definition to life cycle management
Within the area of expertise proficiency in concepts, principles and practices is required. This knowledge is gained through deep involvement into the development of sophisticated high-tech systems, combined with theoretical studies.
Knowledgeable about requirement management and model base system engineering tools (JAMA / DOORS / …, Arcadia-Capella / Architect Enterprise / …)
Experience in the field of Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) or energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) is an advantage but not a requirement.

Report to the Image Acquisition & Detection Manager, also located in Eindhoven
