Finance Business Partner Analyst – Home Care Professional Europe


Location: UK preferred, or Rotterdam (Weena). Not limited to this.

The global business for cleaning products in professional setup (Horeca, Offices, hospitals etc.) is estimated at $30B and is growing because of urbanization, rising middle class, growing service industries and increasing delegation of cleaning chores to professionals like launderettes. The market is fragmented with Ecolab and Diversey as the big, organised players offering full system solutions accounting for 25% of the market. The ready to use market for professionals is estimated at about $8B globally.

Home Care Professional (HC Pro) is set up as a standalone Small C under Home Care Division since 2019 tasked to capture the growing requirements of the professional end-users such as facilities management companies, food service, health care and hospitality industry. HC Pro was growing 38% in 2020 and business reached €150m with limited business footprint mainly in Europe and LATAM. HC Pro’s long term mission is to make Sustainable Cleaning Solutions from Unilever’s well-loved consumer brands Commonplace Out of Home. HC Pro is targeting to create €500m professional business for Unilever by 2025.

This role is based in UK/Rotterdam and will oversee the financial and management reporting operations of venture in Europe, working with the individual MSO’s and key contacts within Diversey. The role will also be responsible for coordinating with the central transaction team who will operate month end transactions, ensuring reported results in Europe are as expected, and also forecasting within the MSO’s are in line with Unilever Professional and Diversey. A key part of the role will also be working closely with UEBV finance functions to ensure all reporting is in line with standard controls and also that tax reporting and the Unilever centralised tax model are also adhered too. As the setup of the business is new, the role will need to ensure that all changes to the operating model are approved by the UEBV Controller.

The purpose of this role is also to provide finance/ commercial business partnering to the business team in the areas of performance management and also ensure that all controls and risks are managed. The role will be key part of the Unilever professional team, ensuring that there is financial rigour of internal processes and also that we are holding both Unilever Professional and Diversey to ambitious growth targets.

The role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right person to demonstrate ownership of the full P&L, develop all round finance and business acumen, and would allow an ambitious and successful candidate to progress further within the organisation and within their career. The roles also offers management experience (lead R2R process with 2 contractual specialists from CG team).

A suitable candidate should be at advanced stage of passing a professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA/ACA), and looking to progress within an organisation and their career to management level.


The key accountabilities, responsibilities, consultation and information are as follows:

Accounting & Reporting

  • Function as key contact with Diversey. Work closely with Diversey team to ensure all relevant information required for reporting is exchanged On Time- in Full, including raise of POs and settlement of transactions.

  • For purchases from Unilever, review standard cost versus transfer pricing from UEBV

  • Ensure Accounting and Bookings of JD transactions are properly recorded in each legal entity.

  • Responsible for Month end closing, AR/AP/Inventory reconciliations and proper reporting of JD results.

  • Responsible for the integrity of respective entities P&L and balance sheets.

  • Ensure good controls between Unilever and Diversey are operated. Maintaining overview of payments between entities and resolving any differences.

  • Work with Diversey and Unilever Professional sales team to fully understand transactions / costs booked for the month and provide appropriate commentary to key stakeholder.

  • Work with UEBV Tax Functions (Direct Tax, VAT, Transfer Pricing) to ensure all operations are compliant with existing UEBV framework

  • Ensure Financial and Management Results are reflected correctly within each MSO.

  • Business Partnering

  • Act as finance business partner to the European Unilever Professional team

  • Ensuring an effective performance management process is in place

  • Assist Unilever and Diversey on Marketing Maximise Return on Investment;

  • Build relationships with European Supply chain (UEBV) to understand the cost base within the P&L, including forecasting future cost movements and understanding implications on pricing.

  • Develop close working relationship with Diversey, Europe and Singapore Finance Teams


  • Financial results delivery of the UI business vs. Prior year and submitted forecast.

  • Year on year sales growth and gross margin enhancement.

  • A rigorous and accurate 12 month rolling financial forecast.

  • Balance Sheet integrity

  • Overheads – Budget management.

  • Simplification of existing processes to focus on Effective Business Partnering.

In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs.  These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
