Basic Function of Position
Provides administrative support to the Community Liaison Office (CLO). S/he assists the CLO Coordinators in developing and maintaining key contacts and managing information that benefits the morale and welfare of the entire mission. Incumbent assists CLO Coordinators in promoting and implementing cross-cultural activities, and providing expert advice on Dutch culture and language to Mission Staff and family members. S/he works closely with the CLO Coordinators to fulfill the office's eight primary areas of responsibilities: employment liaison, crisis management and security liaison, education liaison, information and resource management, guidance and referral, welcoming and orientation, community liaison and events planning. Incumbent reports directly to the CLO Coordinator in The Hague.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in an administrative position involving contact with the public or a customer service position.
Language Requirements: Level 4 (fluent) of English and level 3 (good working knowledge) Dutch for speaking, reading, and writing is required. (This may be tested.)
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of office procedures, standard office equipment and administrative management functions. Must have in-depth knowledge of the host country and region and local history, culture, customs and an overall knowledge of local resources for shopping, travel and leisure activities. Must have or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of pertinent Department of State and the Family Liaison Office (FLO) regulations, programs and policies.
Skills and Abilities: Must have excellent communication (written and oral) skills; strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with Mission staff at all levels, family members and vendors, etc.; strong organizational, planning and project management skills; excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work; strong research skills, initiative, and independent judgement in performing administrative tasks; ability to develop and maintain effective contact in local business and service communities. Must be proficient in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and possess skills or the ability to quickly acquire skills in other software such as Publisher, SharePoint etc.
