Industrial Design Engineering lecturers / teachers of practice

Job description

We are looking for colleagues to bolster our team of lecturers. As a lecturer/teacher of practice, you will be responsible for the supervision, monitoring and grading of students, both individual and in groups, in our bachelor and master education. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our courses. In the past years, the faculty has gone through an extensive bachelor revision process, which will become effective as of September 2021. We are now on the lookout for candidates who combine a flexible and creative mindset with a deep knowledge of the reality of developing and implementing design solutions in a commercial and/or organizational context.

We are especially looking for candidates with expertise in one of more of the following areas:

Product Design:

  • Design, prototyping and testing of physical products (including physical, digital and electronics prototyping skills),
  • Mechanics, materials, production, and technical documentation
  • Life cycle assessment and/or strategic sustainability approaches in design.

Interaction/UX Design:

  • UX design methods and user research (interviews, questionnaires etc.)
  • Interface/UX design, prototyping and testing (mobile, web and/or other interactive products)
  • Usability testing and user interface/UX validation

Service Design:

  • Design of digital/physical products and services
  • Service design methods (user journeys, journey mapping, service blueprints, business model canvas)
  • Low-fidelity prototyping (paper prototyping, wireframing, wizard-of-oz)

Software Design:

  • Agile or lean software design and development methods
  • Requirements engineering
  • Practical software development skills (Python, Arduino, IoT, …)

- Master’s degree in Design (University level) or related discipline (HCI, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering)

- Fluent in Dutch and English

- Practical job experience

  • A salary according to the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

Faculty Industrial Design Engineering

Matching the evolution of people with the speed of the revolution of technology. This is the focus of the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE). Delft designers act as a bridge between advances in technology and the needs of people, organisations and society to create products, services and systems with purpose.

IDE is a leader in design research across the application areas of mobility, sustainability and health, as well as its development of design tools and methods. A 350-strong research team and over 2,000 students work together in our inspiring hall, labs and studios.
