Immunotherapy center coordinator

Your challenge

As an immunotherapy center coordinator your main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Create a portfolio of available resources and operational procedures within the ITC;
  • Coordinate the writing, collection, and standardization of procedures and (clinical) protocols;
  • Design analysis pipelines that integrate the different services available within the ITC and Amsterdam UMC to facilitate the immune monitoring of clinical studies;
  • Coordinate with the Communications Department the construction and maintenance of a website for both internal and external promotion of ITC activities and services;
  • Serve as a bridge between researchers and physicians and establish a cancer immunotherapy-focused network within the Amsterdam UMC;
  • Call and organize ITC steering and advisory committee meetings;
  • Provide advice on different techniques for immunomonitoring (e.g. high-throughput flow cytometry, high dimensional cytometry, multiplexed microscopy, single cell RNAseq, functional assays, proteomics, and others);
  • Coordinate the establishment of a viable tumor cell biobank (and matched blood samples) in aid of (pre)clinical immunotherapeutic research;
  • Establish a collaboration with the network of core facilities, the biobank, and bioinformatics;
  • Advocate the participation of the ITC in (inter)national consortia;
  • Support the writing of (consortium) grants for long-term funding and expansion of the ITC;
  • Establish a liaison with patient organizations, funding organizations and companies.
Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with:

  • A PhD in Medicine, Oncology, or Immunology;
  • Affinity with the immunotherapy of cancer;
  • Interest in high-dimensional and single cell technologies and pushing the boundaries of research through technology-driven applications;
  • You are able to establish long term working relationships, define yourself as a connector, and have a win-win mentality;
  • You are flexible, independent, and a team-player;
  • You have excellent communications skills in Dutch and English, both written and verbal.
Your work environment

You will be working at Amsterdam UMC – location VUmc and work in close collaboration with a team of enthusiastic researchers, and clinicians with expertise in diverse areas of Immunology and Oncology, and in the vibrant environment of the CCA and O|2 labs.

Immunotherapy against cancer has raised enormous expectations due to recent clinical successes in various tumor types. This has led to new anti-cancer therapies that are rapidly becoming part of standard clinical practice in medical oncology. Location VUmc has a long history of performing immunotherapy related clinical research. We were the first to successfully conduct a phase-3 randomised trial with a cancer vaccine, showing clinical benefit (Vermorken, Lancet 1999). We were also the first to combine in the clinic immune checkpoint inhibitors with an anti-tumor vaccine (van den Eertwegh, Lancet Oncol 2012).

To consolidate our leading position within the field and translate new discoveries into the clinic, an Immunotherapy Center (ITC) has been established in the Cancer Centre of Amsterdam (CCA) in which we will centralize and facilitate clinical sampling, biobanking, and state-of-the-art analytical methodologieas and equipment in order to provide a highly professional environment in which CCA clinicians and researchers will have access to specialized technologies in support of the development of new diagnostic s and treatments –from bench to bedside, and back.

We offer

Salary Scale 10: 2911 tot 4615 euro gross when employed full-time (depending on qualifications and experience).

In addition, we offer:

  • 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance.

  • Your pension is accrued at The Dutch Pension Fund for government and education employees (ABP). Amsterdam UMC contributes 70% of this scheme.
  • We reimburse 75% of your public transport travel costs and also offer a bicycle arrangement.

We offer an initial contract for 12 months, which can be extended (after evaluation) for another 24 months.

The preferred starting date for this position is mid July 2021 but this is negotiable. Interviews will be held late May / early June 2021.
