IT Area Manager - Customer Services Area Job description

We’re looking for a talented Area Manager in the DPG Media IT organisation to lead the Customer Services Area.

Our content impacts millions of readers daily, making DPG Media the biggest media house of the Netherlands and Belgium. Without our passionate community, journalists, and over 400 IT colleagues, this wouldn’t be possible. Within the Business Applications cluster of our IT organisation, the Customer Services Area builds and runs the applications like the contact centers, subscriptions, and the self-service portal to support our B2C business stakeholders and our readers. Our teams work in close cooperation with the business stakeholders to implement these applications according to their needs.

Customer-centricity, teamwork, taking initiative, and an agile mindset are important to us. You will work with our cross-functional feature teams in a scaled Agile, Scrum, “You build it, You run it” (DevOps) environment. As Area Manager, you see the bigger picture and develop the area’s capability to build and run great business applications. You will guide the area on continuous improvement of their practices, their collaboration with its customers, other IT teams, and drive the alignment within the organisation - alignment between the various business departments and IT is a critical component in your success.

What you’ll be doing

As Area Manager you have final responsibility for the Customer Service area. As the team’s people and resource manager, you’ll be directing the delivery of product value within the available budget, against required quality, in the shortest possible time. You have budget responsibility for the area and build upon the Agile structures already in place. You organize the area around business value, bring customer focus, and work with all stakeholders to successfully align business and IT perspectives.

With more and more internal employees joining our stable and long-living teams, your role as a people manager is becoming increasingly important. Supported by a dedicated Scrum Master, it also means that you create the best performing teams by recruiting, developing, retaining (and letting go) of the people in the area. The Area Manager drives organisational capability improvements and decides on structure and policies for the area in line with the frames set out with the Cluster Manager.

In close collaboration with the other Area Managers and your Cluster manager, you drive the operational implementation of DPG Media’s IT strategy for your area. You will help our business stakeholders create a high-level roadmap that meets the business objectives that the teams will work on. You understand the business and IT challenges and what it takes to turn them into the required business capabilities aligned with the IT strategy. You bring some fun, celebrate success, and have a close eye on how we can learn from failures!

Job requirements Who you are

Your leadership style will be an important aspect to manage internal and external stakeholders, foster continuous improvement and business & IT alignment. We are looking for a colleague experienced in and passionate about people and high performing teams, who is result driven and foster customer alignment. And someone who knows how to combine those. Enthusiastic storytelling, relationship building and results-orientation are going to be key elements for the new Area Manager.

Please consider the following

  • You are business-driven, team-oriented, curious, open-minded, and eager to learn.
  • Practical experience with team management & performance, product development, change management, and business-IT alignment in larger enterprises.
  • You have experience with customer contact centers, or customer subscription systems.
  • A background in IT development and digital transformation in media is a plus.
  • You value the importance of qualitative deliverables and can balance quality and speed to deliver the results.
  • Willingness to travel to Antwerp from time to time.
  • Although we usually write in English, we expect you to be fluent in Dutch.
